SRINAGAR: Students of Kashmir University on Friday staged a protest against the alleged social media blasphemous post by a non-local student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), officials said.

Scores of KU students held a demonstration in the campus to register their protest against the social media post.

The protest march was not allowed outside the KU campus in Hazratbal.

A major controversy erupted Tuesday after a student of the NIT, who hails from outside J&K. posted an alleged blasphemous post on social media, triggering protests in the institute. Students of the NIT demanded action against the accused.

The protests spread to other colleges in the city on Wednesday.

In wake of the tensions the NIT was closed for winter vacation on Thursday. The degree colleges across Kashmir have also been directed by the government to begin online classes from Friday.

J&K Police has already taken cognisance of the incident at NIT and charged the student for posting sensitive content.

J&K Director General of Police, R R Swain on Thursday said that police have launched the investigation into offensive post which will be taken to a logical conclusion.

"No one will be allowed to hurt the religious feelings of any community, and nobody will be allowed to use this incident for malicious purposes either," DGP said. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Cyber Kashmir Police on Wednesday advised all Social media handlers to refrain from posting provocative and Inappropriate content on their social media.

Taking on to the microblogging platform X, Cyber Kashmir police wrote, "All Social Media users are advised to refrain from sharing provocative & inappropriate content from their handles/pages.

SRINAGAR: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has been featured among the top technical education institutions of the country in the 'India Today rankings'.

The rankings were released in the latest edition of India Today released in August 1, 2023 and NIT Srinagar has secured 19th place among the top 29 technical institutions across the country, a release of the NIT said.

The rankings are based on several parameters including, reputation and governance, academic research excellence, infrastructure and living experience, personality and leadership development, career Progression, placement, objective score, and perception score.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sudhakar Yedla congratulated the Institute’s faculty, students, and non-teaching staff for making the institute’s administration proud by achieving a good rank in India Today rankings.

"It is a proud moment for us that NIT Srinagar has been featured in the Top 20 Technical Education Institutes of the country in recently declared India Today rankings," he said.

Prof. Yedla said this achievement is a result of the collective effort put into maintaining high standards of education, fostering research and innovation, and creating an inclusive and conducive learning environment.

"Over the past several decades, NIT Srinagar has emerged as a beacon of progress, playing a pivotal role in shaping skilled professionals who contribute significantly to various industries and sectors," he said.

SRINAGAR: Addressing a Press Conference in Srinagar to mark the third anniversary of NEP 2020 and its implementation in the campus curriculum, the Director said the Institute wholeheartedly embraced the NEP-2020 over the past three years, effectively implementing its principles with a strong focus on two key aspects: "curriculum" and "governance" reforms.

The announcement was conducted as part of Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam, a nationwide celebration regarding the completion of NEP-2020.

The director emphasized that the NEP envisions a comprehensive transformation of the entire education system, encompassing its regulation and governance, with the ultimate goal of establishing a novel framework that offers students holistic and lifelong learning opportunities.

He expressed that education at NIT Srinagar has shifted towards a "learner-centric" approach.

"As part of this transformation, all B.Tech programs have been restructured, effective from the year 2023, and the credit system has been rationalized, reducing the minimum number of credits needed to obtain a B.Tech degree to 160. This deliberate adjustment aims to offer students ample room for experiential learning, a valuable opportunity for their academic growth," he said.

Prof. Yedla proudly announced that NIT Srinagar has initiated the implementation of a multiple entry and multiple-exit system at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

"We take immense pride in being one of the pioneering institutions to introduce this system nationwide," he said.
The Director also revealed that NIT Srinagar has successfully launched the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) within the National Academic Depository (NAD), with students from the 2022 batch already being registered on the ABC platform.
He informed that their IDs have been generated, and the certificates of B.Tech pass-out batches of 2018 and 2019 have been successfully uploaded on NAD.

Prof. Yedla mentioned that they have embraced the concept of digital learning, enabling student to opt for online courses like SWAYAM, NPTEL, etc., accumulating up to a maximum of 10 credits during their B.Tech. program.

"NIT Srinagar has been utilizing the continuous evaluation system for a considerable period, assessing students' performances to attain the desired learning outcomes," he said.

The Director highlighted that the Institute has aligned its Ph.D. regulations with the NEP-2020, introducing direct Ph.D. admission after a bachelor's degree.

"Student mobility across institutions is a crucial aspect of the NEP, and we have wholeheartedly embraced it. NIT Srinagar has taken a significant step in this direction by signing MoUs with leading institutions in India and across the globe, fostering academic and research collaboration," he said.

The Director mentioned that apart from the mentioned initiatives, NIT Srinagar has been implementing several other academic reforms. Notably, the institute has integrated Enterprise Resource Planning Software (ERP) for streamlined management of students, starting from admission procedures to the conferral of degrees.

"We have set up the Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Center (IIEDC) to offer technical and financial support to students' startups, idea generators, and grassroots innovators," he said.

"Over the past several years, most of the infrastructure (buildings, etc.) at the institute has been made friendly for differently-abled persons by way of provision of ramps and lifts," he said.

He further stated, "In recent years, significant efforts have been made to enhance accessibility for differently-abled individuals within the institute. Ramps and lifts have been provided, making most of the infrastructure (buildings, etc.) inclusive."

Additionally, Prof. Yedla shared that they are actively planning to make the campus more winter-friendly. To achieve this, the institute will be installing central heating facilities in the dining halls and library, ensuring a comfortable environment for everyone during colder months.

"Institute has a well-established Research and Consultancy wing that serves as the primary liaison between the Institute and the Industry," he said.

Prof. Yedla shared that, in a bid to contribute further to the development of the Valley, NIT Srinagar is envisioning new initiatives like the J&K Development Report and the Environmental Status Report of J&K.

“NIT Srinagar aspires to enhance students' overall development, equipping them with the skills to offer optimal solutions to emerging challenges while nurturing their sense of responsibility as socially and environmentally conscious citizens," he added. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: A group of 25 students from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has developed Kashmir's first racing model, Go-kart (G-01).
It will be participating in the All India Go Karting Competition to be held in Coimbatore Tamil Nadu next week, Public Relation Officer of NIT said in a statement.
Department of Mechanical Engineering Team Garuda's first racing model, G-01 was flagged off on Thursday by In-charge Director NIT Srinagar Prof. M F Wani and Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari.
The team of 25 students was formed by Head MED, Prof. Adnan Qayoum and they worked under the mentorship of Dr.H.S. Pali and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran from the past several months on the campus.
Go-Kart has been designed from various equipment and Bajaj Pulsar 150 Engine has been used in the vehicle. It runs on Diesel and goes extreme to 150 kilometers per hour.
Trail run was conducted successfully and it passed all normal tests before going on the road.
Prof. Wani appreciated Team Garuda's model and stated that it is a proud movement for the entire Institute.
"It is the first time that students have developed the G-Kart model. It is just beginning and more to come. Our students are working day and night on innovations and we are also upgrading our infrastructure on the campus," he said.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal said that in the recent decades, GoKart is a new edition in Kashmir and it is more popular in south Indian states.
"The trend of innovations in the Valley is evolving with advanced technology in every field and our students are performing well," he said. UNI
