SRINAGAR: A labourer from Uttar Pradesh died after coming under a massive landslide in Ramban district along Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday, officials said. The landslide has further delayed the opening of the thoroughfare which continues to remain blocked for any fresh traffic for the last three days.  

Official sources told GNS that a fresh landslide occurred near Seeri, Ramban and one labourer reportedly working with a private construction company came under the landslide and died while being shifted to hospital.   They identified him as Desh pal Resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile the Highway, the only surface link of Kashmir valley with the outside valley, remained closed after the fresh landslide, they said.

“Restoration work is in progress at Kishtwari Pather on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, it will take some time,” traffic police said, adding, “People are advised to avoid journey on NH-44 till the road is clear. Please ask TCU for latest update.”

Hundreds of vehicles, most trucks, were stranded at multiple places along the highway which was closed on Monday and, in the last three days, efforts are underway to restore the road for traffic which have been continuously hampered due to landslides at multiple places. The traffic had been partially restored on Wednesday afternoon to clear stranded vehicles but it was again closed. No fresh traffic could be allowed for three days, they added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Dead body of a labourer from Doda who had drowned in Jehleum in Sangam area of Anantnag two days before has been retrieved.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a body of one labour ankash Kumar R/o Doda age about 22 yrs who had drowned in river jhelum on sunday at sangam fished out and brought to SDH Bijbehara.

Further proceedings in this regard have been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A 54-year-old man died after he came under a falling wall in Shilvat village of north Kashmir's Bandipora district this afternoon, officials said. 

They told GNS that one Mohammad Ashraf Beigh from Ganastan engaged in manual labour was fatally injured while demolishing a house at Shilvat. 

"The person was evacuated to CHC Sumbal, where the doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival", they said. 

Confirming it, a doctor at CHC Sumbal told GNS that the death has been caused due to grievous head injuries. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A 58-year-old labour on Tuesday slipped to death in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that the labour was extracting rocks at Baraim cave Hillock tehsil Beerwah.However he slipped and fell down causing him on spot death.

The labourer identified as Ghulam Ahmed Dar son of Mohammad Ismayeel Dar a resident of Sodipora Beerwah(Ward No:12). A police official while confirming the incident to Kashmir Scroll said that police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation(KS)

SRINAGAR: A 20-year-old GREF labourer died while bathing in a river in Poonch district, officials said.

Identifying the deceased as one Imtiaz Ahmad son of Mohammad Hanief, a resident of Upper Surankote, the officials told GNS that the person was brought out from the river in unconscious state and taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared as brought dead on arrival. 

Medical Officer, Dr. Javid Ahmad, has also confirmed to GNS about the death of the person. 

A police official has in the meantime said that the body would be handed over to the family for last rites after medico-legal formalities. (GNS)
