SRINAGAR: Due to the recent snowfall, schools in the Gurez sub-division will be closed for two days, officials said on Wednesday.

“In view of heavy snowfall and Avalanche threat, it is hereby ordered that all Government/Private educational Institutions in Sub Division Gurez shall remain closed for two days W.e.f 21-02-2024,” reads an order issued by SDM Gurez.

SRINAGAR: The authorities suspended vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Monday after the thoroughfare was blocked by a mudslide near  Mehad-Cafteria, Ramban, and a landslide at Tabela Chamalwass, Banihal.

In a post on X, traffic police advised people to refrain from travelling on NH-44 until weather conditions improve and the road is cleared. Officials emphasized consulting TCU before commencing the journey.

SRINAGAR: District administration Bandipora on Monday ordered for closure of the road leading towards Gurez.

“In view of recent snowfall and as recommended by Officer Commanding 56 RCC (GREF) C/O 56 APO vide letter number: 2048/SSC/BG/17/E2, dated 29.01.2024, Bandipora-Gurez road, shall remain closed for all types of vehicular movement, with immediate effect, till further orders”, reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS. SRINAGAR: Authorities have closed Mughal Road due to an 'avalanche' reported along the thoroughfare. 

An official told GNS that an 'avalanche' occurred along the road this afternoon, following which the road has been closed as a precautionary measure.

SRINAGAR: Mughal road, connecting Kashmir Valley's Shopian district with twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed due to fresh snowfall on Thursday, officials said.

They said that there was fresh snowfall at several places along the road including 'Pir Ki Gali', leading to the closure of the thoroughfare.

Earlier this year, the road, considered as alternative to Jammu-Srinagar Highway, was closed on several occasions due to snowfall, particularly in 'Pir KiGali’ and its adjoining areas.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, only surface link that connects Kashmir with outside world, was closed for traffic on Monday after shooting stones, officials said here.

Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police in a post on X (formerly Twitter), as per the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the traffic from both sides has been halted on NH-44 at T2 Ramban due to shooting stones 

It further said that people are advised to ask TCUs before proceeding on Jammu-Srinagar highway. 

Police said that men and machinery have been mobilized to swiftly clear the road. (KNO)

The thoroughfare has been blocked near Poshana in this mountainous district due to landslide amid rains, they said. Immediately, they said, men and machinery were pressed into service to clear the road.

A traffic department official confirmed the closure of the road and said that the efforts are underway to reopen it. (GNS)

The thoroughfare has been blocked near Ratta Chamb in this mountainous district due to landslide amid rains, the officials said. Immediately, they said, men and machinery were pressed into service to clear the road.

SRINAGAR: Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained suspended for the third day on Monday and the authorities said that the thoroughfare shall remain closed on Tuesday despite stepped up efforts to restore the road amid improved weather conditions, officials said.

The highway,  the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with outside world, was shut for traffic on Saturday following heavy rains overnight that triggered multiple landslides and also washed away a portion of nearly 40-metre road stretch near Panthiyal tunnel in Ramban district.

“Collective efforts from the Administration and NHAI, put in throughout the day, resulted in substantial improvement in the road condition. However, complete restoration is expected to take some more time,” police said in a statement issued here to GNS. “Accordingly, it has been decided by the Administration to keep the traffic on Highway suspended for tomorrow also i.e. 11.07.2023 (Tuesday).” HMVs have been advised to take Mughal Road for journey from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa.

“Traffic is likely to resume on 12.07.2023 (Wednesday), however, next update will be issued tomorrow evening.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The Mughal Road connecting the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian was closed for traffic after it was thrown open yesterday for vehicular traffic after nearly a week. 

An official told GNS that the road was made through after a landslide debris, occurring last week, was cleared yesterday. “The road was open for one-way traffic since last afternoon and the traffic movement which was allowed on both sides today had to be suspended after a landslide occurred at Rata Chambb in Surankote”, the official said. 

“Men and machinery are on job to clear the debris from the thoroughfare and it may take a while for clearance”, the official said. 

It has been in the meantime learnt that hundreds of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road. There are reportedly many vehicles carrying devotees to Wangath Ganderbal in connection with an annual fair. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The authorities have ordered suspension of vehicular traffic on both sides on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in order to carry out repair and maintenance works in Dhalwas area of Ramban district. 

According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the traffic on National Highway-44 is closed as of now for restoration works at Dhalwas. 

The order reads that the critical stretch at Dhalwas has become narrow, following incessant rains and slides. 

“People and passengers are being informed about the status of National Highway-44 through various social media platforms,” it added. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: A major landslide near Mansar Morh on Saturday evening led to the closure of Mughal road, connecting Poonch-Rajouri and Shopian districts.  

DTI Mughal Shoket Amin Khan confirmed the closure of the thoroughfare for vehicular traffic after the landslide.  He said men and machinery have been pressed into services to restore the thoroughfare for traffic.  (GNS)
