SRINAGAR: The National Conference on Monday announced former minister and legislator from Kangan Mian Altaf as its Lok Sabha candidate for Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.

Announcing the candidature of Mian Altaf, NC vice president Omar Abdullah, as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that the party high-command believes that there will be no other better candidate than Mian Altaf for Anantnag-Rajouri seat.

He said that the party has decided to field Mian Altaf as its candidates for Anantnag-Rajouri seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

This is the party’s first announcement of candidature for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated to commence from April 19 in 7 phases across the country.

KNS has already reported that the NC would field Mian Altaf as its candidate for Anantnag-Rajouri seat, while NC vice-president Omar Abdullah is likely to contest from Srinagar-Pulwama constituency and Choudhary Ramzan is likely to contest from Baramulla constituency. (KNS)

SRINAGAR: Health Department on Saturday apprehended an alleged doctor and sealed his clinic in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. 

"It has come to the notice of undersigned that one alleged fake doctor is practicing in Anantnag. Taking cognisance of the matter, a team of Officers/Officials was deputed from this office, which sealed the clinic immediately and an investigation in this regard is going on", reads a circular, a copy of which lies with GNS, by Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Zagoo. 

"As such, in order to make the system transparent, all the Private Hospitals/Clinics of District Anantnag are hereby directed to furnish the information of all the doctors practicing in their respective Hospitals/Clinics as per the devised proforma within three days positively", reads the circular. SRINAGAR: A person was killed and four others injured after a Tempo traveller they were on board skidded off a road in Kokernag area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.

An official told GNS that a Tempo traveller bearing registration number HR55AM 5306 skidded off the road at Daksum Kokernag area, resulting in on spot death of one and injuries to four other occupants in the vehicle. 

"The injured persons were taken to PHC Larnoo from where they were shifted to SDH Kokernag and further referred to GMC Anantnag for advanced treatment", the official said. 

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that a case has been registered in this regard for further investigations. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said that it have attached property of a militant associate in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that continuing its crackdown on terror ecosystem; harbouring terrorists and providing logistic support to terrorists, District Police Anantnag along with concerned Executive Magistrate attached residential Property belonging to Ab Salam Rather son of Mohd Ramzan Rather at Tangpawa Kokernag. The property was linked with Case FIR No. 170/2022, U/S 307 IPC, 7/25 I A Act, 16,18,19,20,23,38,39 UA (P) Act of Police Station Kokernag. 

According to police spokesman, during the investigation of the above case it had surfaced that Zahoor Ahmad Rather son of Ab Salam Rather resident of Tangpawa Kokernag was working as terrorist associate (OGW) and was providing food, shelter and other logistic support to killed terrorists identified as Asif Reshi @ Khubaib S/O Mohd Yaseen Reshi R/O Sheikhpora Marhama and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, @ Talha S/O Abdul Ahad Bhat R/O Nai Basti Marhama at his residential house and thus it falls within ambit of “Proceeds of terrorism “ under section 2(g) r/w section 25 of UA(P) Act 1967. Confirmation of attachment of property was sanctioned by competent authority. 

Anantnag Police once again appeals general Public not to provide logistic support to terrorists, if done  strict action as per law will be taken against the culprit, reads the statement.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a Hybrid militant along with arms and ammunition in South Kashmir’s Shopian.

In a hansout to GNS, the police said that today About 18:00 hrs A joint Naka and patrolling in villages of Manihal, Aloora, DK Pora was established  by Shopian Police, Army 34 RR,SOG PC Imamsahib and 178 Bn CRPF. During naka checking at Manihal Crossing  suspicious movement of one person coming towards naka point by foot was observed. While seeing police party and security forces, the suspect person tried to flee from the spot but alert naka party apprehended him tactfully.

According to police spokesman, during preliminary questioning, he was identified as Bilal Ahmad Shah son of Miraq Shah resident of Vessu Qazigund. During his search 01 Illicit Pistol, one magazine, 14 live rounds one mobile phone and his adhar card was recovered from his possession.

During preliminary questioning when asked about possession of Illicit weapon and ammunition he revealed that he has recived the same from an active militant in order to carry out attack in the District Shopian, he said.

In this regard, case FIR NO. 54/2023 under sections 7/25 IAA,18,20,23 UA(P) has been registered in PS Imamsahib and investigation has been taken up, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: In an unfortunate incident reported from Bijbhera in South Kashmir's Ananthnag district, thieves managed to loot gold ornaments worth an estimated 15 Lakhs from a residential house.

Sources told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that the residential house belonged to Mohd Shafi Wani and Manzoor Ahmad Wani, sons of Ghulam Rasool of Katoo Bijbhera.

 The thieves took advantage of their absence and successfully executed the crime, making away with the significant haul of gold ornaments.

SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old student who was shot and injured by unknown gunmen in Watrigam Wanihama area of Anantnag district on last evening succumbed to injuries at SKIMS here on Thursday.

A top police officer confirmed to GNS that the youth identified as Sahil Bashir son of Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Watrigam Dialgam at Wanihama has succumbed to the wounds.

Dar with bullet injury in neck had been immediately shifted to nearby hospital where from he was shifted to SKIMS Soura here. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Eight non-locals were injured after "Vibrater" of load carrier  they were travelling in blasted in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

"Today one Tata Mobile  bearing registration JK18-4476 coming  from Dooru towards Dialgam Anantnag reached at Larkipora Anantnag where a Vibrater Blasted inside the Vehicle in which 8 Non Locals  who were boarding  the vehicle got injured," police said in a statement to GNS.

They were shifted to GMC Janglatmandi Anantnag for treatment, it daid. The injured have been identified as Chato Kumar, 18;  Param Jeet, 22; Bhawan Kumar, 21; Fiqan, 17; Jiten, 21; Titu Kumar, 23; Matlesh Kumar, 19 and Shan Kumar, 17, all  residents of Bihar. A Police officer said that there was no militancy angle into it. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A 32 year old man was injured in a bear attack at Brah Shangus area of South Kashmir Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir scroll said that a man was injured after attacked by a wild bear at Tehsil Shangus area of Anantnag.

"The man was shifted to GMC hospital Anantnag in critical condition for treatment," they said.

The identified injured as Pervaiz Ahmad Khan son of Zaffar Ullah Khan resident of Brah Shangus. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Body of an army soldier who was missing since gunfight erupted in Gadoole has been recovered  on Monday.

Official told GNS that Body of a missing soldier has been recovered today at encounter and is subsequently transported back.

Pertinently on day first of gunfight, an army colonel,  Major, soldier and a DySP were killed in the initial gunfight.

Meanwhile, searches led by joint team of army and police are searching the encounter site, which is a vast forest with tough terrain. (GNS)

Lt Governor Sinha expressed his condolences to the family members and assured the family of all assistance and support from the administration.

“The entire nation stands in solidarity with the family of our braveheart,” Lt Governor said.

Two decorated Army officers, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, his company commander, Major Aashish Dhonchak, also from the 19 RR, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Muzamil Bhat, were killed and two other soldiers were injured in a gun battle in the Garool forest of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Sujit Kumar Singh, DIG CKR Srinagar were also present. (UNI)
