SRINAGAR: Several persons, part of two separate gangs have been arrested after Police found them engaged in a fight over internal dispute with regard to online scammed money in Poonch, an official said.

The official told GNS that two gangs from Dogria and Buffliaz areas in Surankote in Poonch district were fighting each other with online money scammed through 'Telegram' (instant messaging service). 

The two groups, the official said are actively involved in scamming and drug peddling activities. 

"After receiving information about the fight between the rival groups, a police team reached the spot and arrested members of both the gangs for necessary action," the official said.

Confirming it, a police officer told GNS that an FIR has been registered in this regard under relevant sections for further proceedings. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday said that three anti-national elements were booked under Public Safety Act in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that acting tough against ANEs Baramulla Police booked three persons namely Mysir Majeed Malik son of Abdul Majeed resident of Seriwarpora Pattan, Abdul Ahad Dar son of Ghulam Mohd DAR resident of Dar Mohalla Palhallan & Khursheed Ahmad Waza son of Late Gh Ahmad resident of Tantraypora Palhallan under Public Safety Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority.

The statement further stated that the booked persons have been detained and subsequently lodged in District Jail Kupwara & Anantnag.

Pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against these  persons and were involved in disturbance of L&O and subversion. Despite their involvement in many FIR's they did not mend their anti national & Social  activities, reads the statement.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: An alleged gangster was killed while a police official sustained injuries in a shootout at Government Medical College Kathua last night. 

As learnt by GNS, police and a group of alleged gangsters exchanged fire at about 10:35 PM last night at Government Medical College premises in Kathua, resulting in the killing of a 'gangster' and injury of a PSI Deepak Sharma. 

The injured PSI was admitted in a nearby hospital for treatment, whose current condition couldn't be however ascertained. 

The circumstances leading to the incident however remain shrouded in mystery as no significant information could be made available regarding the face-off between the police and alleged gangsters. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla on Tuesday said to have apprehended two absconders, evading arrest for more than three decades in the north Kashmir district. 

“Police in Baramulla have arrested two absconders who were evading their arrests from decades in case FIR Numbers 115/1997 & 03/1988 of  PS Pattan & PS Tangmarg respectively,” reads a media handout issued to GNS.

“Warrant under section 512 CrPC issued by Hon'ble Court of Sub Judge JMIC Tangmarg pending with Police Station Tangmarg & Kunzer against accused persons namely Nazir Ahmad Mir son of Wali Mohammad resident of Miskeenbagh Khanyar A/P Ladoo Pampore & Ali Mohd Kawa son of Mohammad Qasim resident of Kawapora Sumbal A/P Hamdaniya Colony Bemina Srinagar were executed, who were evading their arrests from last decades, involved in case FIR Numbers 115/1997 & 03/1988 of Police Station Kunzer & Tangmarg were arrested by a special Police team under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg and consisting of SHO PS Tangmarg & Kunzer among others,” reads the handout.

“Subsequently, the arrested accused persons were produced before the Hon’ble Court of Law.”

“Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal activities,” the handout further reads. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested 03 militant associates in North Kashmir's Sopore.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that it along with Army (22RR) & CRPF (179BN) at a joint checkpoint established at Fruit Mandi crossing noticed 03 suspicious persons attempting to flee from the spot, but the alert joint party apprehended them tactfully. They have been identified as Faisal Ahmad Kachroo son of Farooq Ahmad Kachroo resident of Baba Yousuf Sopore, Aquib Mehraj Kana son of Mehraj din Kana resident of Sangrama Sopore and Adil Akber Gojree son of Akbar Gojree resident of Kushal Matoo Sopore. During search, a pistol, mobile phones and other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession. Its pertinent to mention here that trio failed to justify the contents of their phones, which contained incriminating evidence.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 68/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has been initiated, reads the statement.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said to have booked five miscreants under Public Safety Act and subsequently lodging them in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu and District Jail Udhampur. 

"Acting tough against ANEs (Anti-national Elements) Baramulla Police booked five persons namely Asif Ali Bhat son of Ali Mohammad resident of Badipora Tangmarg, Mohammad Yaqoob Bhat son of Gh Mohd resident of Tantraypora Palhallan, Waseem Mehraj Farash @Waseem Farash son of Mehraj ud din resident of Khanpora, Bashir Ahmad Sualiah son of Late Ghulam Mohammad resident of Mohalla Jadeed Baramulla & Bilal Ahmad Dar @Shakir son of Gh Nabi resident of Wussan Khoie Pattan under Public Safety Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority," reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"The booked persons have been detained and subsequently lodged in District Jail Udhampur & Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu."

"Pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against these  persons and were involved in the disturbance of L&O and subversion. Despite their involvement in many FIRs they did not mend their anti national & Social  activities," reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday detained two accused in connection with a blast in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.

The blast triggered by a handmade crude substance took place in the vicinity of the district hospital in Poonch town late Tuesday night, causing panic among locals.

A police officer said that they received info of suspected small intensity explosion like sound heard from an area near Poonch Hospital. “Necessary investigation into the matter has been set into motion to ascertain the exact nature of the material which apparently looks like a hand made crude substance," he said. 

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla Tuesday attached a vehicle bought from money earned from alleged drug trafficking activity.

"Continuing its action against drug peddlers, Police in Baramulla attached  vehicles illegal properties (Swift bearing registration number JK01M-7247 worth Lacs belonging to notorious drug peddler namely Ashiq Illahi Parray son of Ab Razaq resident of Lawaypora Shalteng Srinagar," reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"The action was taken under the sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act of 1985 & were linked with case FIR No. 368/2023 u/s 8/21-29 NDPS Act of PS Pattan."

"The property was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of investigation/enquiry conducted by Police. The property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in Narcotic drug and Psychotropic substances by the drug peddlers," the statement reads. 

"This operation reaffirms the commitment of Police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area hailed the initiative of Police," the statement reads further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A man in Pulwama has been booked for extorting money from public through criminal intimidation in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. 

"Today Police station Rajpora received information through reliable sources that some persons in the jurisdiction of police station are extorting money from the general public by deceitful means through criminal intimidation," reads a media statement, as per GNS. 

"In this regard case FIR no 22/2024 u/s 384, 506, 420 was registered and investigation set into motion. During the course of investigation one person namely Andleeb Ahmad Mir son of Ab Rasheed Mir resident of Rajpora has been arrested and two toy pistols used for the crime  have been recovered from his possession," the statement reads. 

"Further investigation of the case is going on," the statement reads. 

"It is appealed to the general public that such miscreants who are using unjust terror to do extortions and create a panic atmosphere should be immediately identified and information be shared with the police," added the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said that it have attached property of a militant associate in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that continuing its crackdown on terror ecosystem; harbouring terrorists and providing logistic support to terrorists, District Police Anantnag along with concerned Executive Magistrate attached residential Property belonging to Ab Salam Rather son of Mohd Ramzan Rather at Tangpawa Kokernag. The property was linked with Case FIR No. 170/2022, U/S 307 IPC, 7/25 I A Act, 16,18,19,20,23,38,39 UA (P) Act of Police Station Kokernag. 

According to police spokesman, during the investigation of the above case it had surfaced that Zahoor Ahmad Rather son of Ab Salam Rather resident of Tangpawa Kokernag was working as terrorist associate (OGW) and was providing food, shelter and other logistic support to killed terrorists identified as Asif Reshi @ Khubaib S/O Mohd Yaseen Reshi R/O Sheikhpora Marhama and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, @ Talha S/O Abdul Ahad Bhat R/O Nai Basti Marhama at his residential house and thus it falls within ambit of “Proceeds of terrorism “ under section 2(g) r/w section 25 of UA(P) Act 1967. Confirmation of attachment of property was sanctioned by competent authority. 

Anantnag Police once again appeals general Public not to provide logistic support to terrorists, if done  strict action as per law will be taken against the culprit, reads the statement.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police and army on Wednesday said to have recovered 2.5 kgs of 'heroin' in Poonch district. 

 A police official told GNS that Army alongwith  Police launched  a joint search operation on "suspicion"  in Degwar Teerwan area of Poonch  district and recovered 2.5 kg heroin. Confirming it, a police official told GNS that a case has been registered and further investigations taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency on Saturday morning attached the residential house of an accused in connection with case of weapon recovery in Chanapora area of Srinagar district.

Sources told GNS that a NIA team along with police and CRPF this morning attached the property of an accused namely Mushtaq Ahmad son of Abdul Ganaie, Khan Colony, Chanapora, they said.

The house has been attached in connection with case RC 4/22 regarding recovery of weapon, they added.

Its pertinent to mention that Srinagar Police in May 2023 in Chanapora arrested two local hybrid militants of proscribed militant outfit LeT/TRF. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 15 pistols, 30 magazines, 300 rounds & 1 silencer were recovered. The case was handed over to NIA for further investigation(GNS)
