SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested a militant associate and recovered from his possession ammunition and other incriminating material in Baramulla district. 

“Police alongwith security forces arrested militant  associate linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT and recovered incriminating materials, ammunition from his possession in Baramulla,” reads a statement issued to GNS.

“On a specific input of terrorist movement in Pattan area, a joint Naka was established at Chinar Crossing Pattan by Baramulla Police, 2nd Bn SSB &  Army 29  RR.”

“During naka checking suspicious movement of one person coming towards naka point by foot was observed. While seeing police party and security forces, the suspect person tried to flee from the spot but alert naka party apprehended him tactfully,” reads the statement.

During preliminary questioning, the statement said the arrestee was identified as Mehraj ud din Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Mundyari Pattan.

“During his search one live hand grenade was recovered from his possession.”

“In this regard, case under sections UA (P) & Arms Act has been registered in PS Pattan and investigation has been taken up,” reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara apprehended a militant associate with arms and ammunition on Friday. 

"Today on 16/02/2024 police Kupwara apprehended one person whose identity was ascertained as Asif Mushtaq Wani son of Mushtaq Ahmed Wani resident of Galizoo Kupwara at a surprise Naka checking jointly established by Police Kupwara, PC Kupwara, 47RR and 162 CRPF near BEd college Dragmullah", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"The person tried to escape on seeking the alert joint security forces party , however he was apprehended after putting hectic efforts. On the search of the said person one Pistol Chinese Make, one pistol magazine and 6 pistol rounds were recovered from his possession", reads the statement. 

"In this regard case FIR No 37/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Kupwara and investigation has been taken up", reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A cache of explosive material and other ammunition was recovered during a cordon-and-search-operation in Sopore area of Baramulla district, an official said on Thursday.

The official told GNS that a cordon-and-search-operation was launched at Krankshiven village in connection with an FIR number 307/2023. 

During the searches, the official said, explosive material, IEDs, a rusted pistol with a magazine and ammunition of SLR/AK-47/Pistol were found and recovered at the residence of one Rashid Najar. 

"Rashid Najar is the brother of slain militant Qayoom Najar", the official said adding further investigations into the matter are underway. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday recovered arms and ammunition during a joint search operation in Magam area of Kupwara.
 
“In a joint search operation today (Wednesday) at Cheramunji near Magam, Kupwara, Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police have achieved a major breakthrough against the militant activities, resulting in a significant recovery of ammunition and Warlike stores”, reads a statement issued to GNS. 

The operation, the statement reads, was a result of Human intelligence received from a reliable source. 

“A meticulous operation of search and destroy was launch based on the input which resulted in the recovery of 9x UBGL shells, 4x IED receivers, 30 x Commercial grade detonators housed in their original factory packaging, 138 rounds of AK47, a loaded magazine of sniper rifle, blank rounds of AK 47 and 4x magazines of 9mm pistol”, reads the statement. SRINAGAR: : Security forces on Thursday claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation along the line of control (LOC) in Palanwallah area of Akhnoor sector.

An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that during search operation 01 IED fitted with batteries, 01 Pistol , 02 Magazines of pistol, 38 rounds of pistol ammunition, 09 Grenades were recovered.

The officer further said that in this regard a case FIR has been registered at police station Khour and further investigation has been initiated. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Tuesday recovered rusted ammunition from along the National Highway in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police sources said that four magazines and rusted rounds were recovered near highway in Jakh area of Samba district.

SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested four militant associates affliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit along with arms and ammunition in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that on 30/10/2023 during naka checking at Naradhiri Dangerpora junction joint teams of Baramulla Police along with 52 RR & 53 Bn CRPF apprehended two persons namely Gh Hassan Mir son of Gh Rasool Mir resident of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Afzal Khan resident of Pinjwara Laridora Chandoosa who upon seeing joint parties of security forces tried to flee from the spot  but were tactfully apprehended and upon their search 1 Chinese Pistol, 1 Pistol magazine, 12 live rounds and 2 hand grenades were recovered from their possession.

The police spokesman further stated that to this effect case FIR no. 68/2023 U/S 7/25 IA ACT, 13,18,23,39 UAPA was registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation was started. During the course of investigation and upon their disclosure, two more persons namely Altaf Ahmad Rather son of Ab Ahad Rather resident of Kawhar and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb son of Ab Gaffar Naqeeb resident of Kunzar were picked up for questioning. 

During questioning both Altaf Ahmad Rather and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb confessed that they possessed  arms & ammunition. Upon disclosure 2 hand grenades were recovered from both the accused and subsequently were arrested in the instant case, he said.

During investigation it came to surface that all the four accused persons were working for Terrorist Associate Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Rashid Sheikh resident of Kunzer in the past who is presently lodged under PSA.

Further investigation is going on, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Two suspected persons were arrested with arms and ammunition in Dangarpora area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said on Tuesday. 

They told GNS that on Monday evening a joint party of JK Police and Army arrested a duo at Nardhari Dangarpora. "Upon their frisking, the joint party recovered a Chinese pistol, 12 9mm Rounds and two Chinese grenades", they said. 

Identifying the duo as Ghulam Hassan Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Afzal Khan, both residents of Chandoosa Baramulla, the official further said that a case has been registered in this regard and both the persons taken into custody for questioning. (GNS)

According to police 2 IEDs, 2 handgrenades, 1 pistol with 2 magazines, 24 cartridges, 1 timer switch, 8 detonators, and batteries were recovered from them.

He said the terror module was handled by Firdaus Ahmed Bhat, an active member of the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

The police also said it is a major blow to terror module attempting to disturb peace in Punjab. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested one suspected along with 3 pistols, besides three were Summoned for questioning in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that In a joint operation, following specific information, police and army apprehended Azim Bashir Wani of Idgah Mohalla Beerwah and recovered 03 pistols along with other war-like stores from his possession.

The investigation is underway,03 additional suspects summoned for questioning, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two militants belonging to TRF oufit an offshoot of LeT in North Kashmir's Baramulla district

In a handout to GNS, the police said that On 21th September Police in Baramulla through reliable sources came to know that one individual namely Yaseen Ahmad Shah son of Tariq Ahmad resident of Janbazpora Baramulla is missing from his home and has joined proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up.

The police spokesman further stated that on receipt of this information, based on human/technical intelligence, a joint team of Baramulla Police, Army & CAPF during MVCP checking at Tapper Pattan apprehended the said militant. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 1 Pistol, 1 Pistol Magazine and 8 live rounds were recovered from his possession. 

During questioning, he disclosed the name of his other associate as Parvaiz Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohd resident of Takiya Wagoora. Accordingly, joint parties of Baramulla Police, Army & CAPF raided his residence and subsequently arrested him. Upon his disclosure, 2 Hand Grenades were also recovered from his possession, he said.

Today, during the further course of interrogation of militant Mohd Yaseen Shah and on his disclosure, 1 Pistol, 1 Pistol Magazine & 8 live rounds were also recovered from his house at Janbazpora, he said.

Investigation so far has revealed that these 2 terrorists were operating on the directions from Pakistan based handlers and were planning to recruit more militants and carry out miitant activities in Baramulla and nearby areas. The investigation is at the initial stage and more arrests and recoveries are expected, reads the statement

SRINAGAR:  Security forces on Friday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including five AK rifles close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, Srinagar based defence spokesman said on Friday.

The recoveries were made by a joint team of Army, Border Security Force and Police during a search operation that is still underway in Machil sector of the frontier district.

Defence spokesman Lt Col M K Sahu said that based on concrete intelligence inputs by agencies on attempts by terrorists to induct war like stores into Kashmir Valley from across the LoC, a joint operation was launched from August 15 to 18 in Machil.

“During the search operations, huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered at around 1100 hours today which include five AK Series Rifles, eight AK Magazines, seven 9mm Pistols, fifteen 9mm Pistol Magazines, four Hand Grenades, 7.62 mm AK Rounds, 7.62 mm AP Rounds and 9 mm Rounds and other incriminating material,” the spokesman said.

Lt Col M K Sahu said extensive search of the area is being carried out.

The spokesman said the recovery of such a large cache of arms and ammunition is a huge setback to the nefarious designs of terrorist organisations to disrupt peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley.

“Security Forces in complete synergy are always combat ready and are committed to keep the Valley safe and secure,” he added.

Meanwhile, a BSF spokesman said the input about cache of arms and ammunition was generated by the Force following which a joint operation was launched in Machil.

Following the recovery of arms and ammunition, Inspector General BSF, Kashmir, Ashok Yadav said that the successful operation is the result of strong operational synergy between forces on the LoC.

“The successful operation has once again thwarted attempts by various terrorist organizations to disrupt peace and tranquility in the Kashmir valley,” he said.
