SRINAGAR: The authorities in Kashmir valley have decided to close Asia's largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar for the general public from Friday.

The Floriculture Department, in a statement, said that “the bloom was over”.
"As the Tulip Bloom is almost over, the Director Floriculture Kashmir issued a notification stating that the Tulip Garden, Srinagar shall remain closed for the general public w. e. f 21.04.2023, " it said.
A record over 3.65 lakh tourists including locals had visited the garden since its opening on March 19 surpassing the all-time previous record. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Rains continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir even as the weather department here on Wednesday modified its forecast, predicting intermittent rainfall to continue till April 22.

A meteorological department official here told GNS intermittent light to moderate rain was likely to continue at most places of Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu. However, he said, a significant decrease in rainfall was expected from this evening.

On April 20-22, MeT forecast intermittent light to moderate rain at scattered places. From April 23-25, he said, the mainly dry weather was expected.

Regarding rainfall in last 48 hours till 0830 hours today, Anantnag received 31mm, Kulgam 15mm, Pulwama 29mm Shopian 35mm, Qazigund 50mm, Pahalgam 63.4mm, Kokernag 37.8mm, Srinagar 22.9mm,  Gulmarg 51.7mm,  Banihal 66.4mm, Batote 29mm, Udhampur 15.8mm, Jammu 17.1mm, Katra 22.2mm, and Kathua 3.4mm.

Regarding temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 10.3°C against 11.0°C on the previous night and it was 2.4°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 9.2°C against 9.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 5.4°C against 5.6°C on the previous night and it was 2.0°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.3°C against 9.3°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.0°C against 3.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 7.1°C against 8.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 17.4°C against 20.0°C on the previous night. It was 2.5°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 10.2°C (above normal by 1.8°C), Batote 10.1°C (below normal by 1.3°C), Katra 16.0°C (1.1°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 11.9°C (4.7°C above normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of 1.6°C and 3.3°C respectively, he said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Weather department here on Tuesday said that intermittent rain and thunderstorms was very likely to continue in Jammu and Kashmir till April 21.

“During this wet spell of (18-19th) thunderstorms with strong gusty wind reaching (20-30KMPH) and hailstorm is also possible at some places of Jammu and Kashmir,” a meteorological department official said. From April 22-25, he said, the weather was likely to be “mainly dry.”

He said in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, Srinagar received 6.9mm of rain, Qazigund 11.0mm, Pahalgam 22.4mm, Kupwara 15.7mm, Gulmarg 12.2mm, Jammu 6.2mm, Banihal 21.1mm, Katra 4.4mm and Bhaderwah 9.2mm.

Regarding temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.0°C against 10.7°C on the previous night and it was 3.1°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 9.8°C against 8.8°C on the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 5.6°C against 5.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.2°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Jammu recorded a low of 20.0°C against 25.9°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 10.5°C (above normal by 2.1°C), Batote 12.6°C (above normal by 1.2°C), Katra 18.5°C (1.4°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 11.4°C (4.2°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 5.0°C and Kargil 5.4°C, he said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: o significant change in weather is expected and it is likely to be mainly dry, the meteorological department said even as the minimum temperature recorded an increase at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

“Mainly dry weather is expected during the next 24 hours,” a meteorological department official here told GNS, adding, “no significant change is expected and it is likely to be mainly dry for subsequent two days.”

Regarding the temperature, the MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.4°C against 7.1°C on the previous night and it was 0.2°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.4°C against 4.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.5°C against 3.0°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 7.5°C against 7.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.6°C against 3.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.1°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 5.8°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 17.9°C against 17.4°C on the previous night. It was 1.3°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.9°C (below normal by 1.3°C), Batote 12.0°C (above normal by 1.5°C), Katra 16.7°C (0.2°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 7.7°C (0.7°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 1.8°C and 1.4°C respectively, he added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR:  Weather department on Saturday said that intermittent rain in plains and snowfall over higher reaches was very likely to continue at most places of Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official here told GNS that partly to generally cloudy weather was expected on Sunday with possibility of a brief spell of rain and thunderstorm towards evening at scattered places.

On April 3-6, he said, intermittent rain and thunderstorm was expected at many places. “Thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds,” he said.

The department has urged farmers to postpone spraying orchards and irrigating fields till April 6.

The MeT department also urged commuters to confirm from traffic authorities the road status of various highways and roads before starting the travel.

Regarding rainfall during the last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, the MeT official said, Srinagar received 5.2mm, Qazigund 1.6mm, Pahalgam 3.3mm, Kupwara 5.3mm, Kokernag 9.0mm, Gulmarg 3.4mm, Jammu 13.7mm, Banihal 7.8mm, Batote 14.1mm, Katra 12.8mm, Bhaderwah 13.8mm and Kathua 20.8mm.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures recorded an increase at most places and settled above normal in J&K.

The MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.1°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 8.0°C against 6.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 4.6°C against 3.2°C on the previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 6.0°C against 5.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.9°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.8°C against 0.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 6.8°C against 5.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 14.7°C against 15.1°C on the previous night. It was 2.4°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 8.4°C (above normal by 1.4°C), Batote 8.1°C (below normal by 0.8°C), Katra 12.6°C (1.9°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 7.4°C (1.8°C above normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 1.2°C and 2.1°C respectively. (GNS)
