SRINAGAR:  Pakistani intruder was apprehended by security forces in Rambli Dhara forward post area of Nowshera Sector in Rajouri district 

Officials told GNS that around 9:30 pm on Friday army deployed at forward post in Nowshera sector apprehended Pak Intruder, while he was trying to cross over to India side.

He has been idenfied as Mohd Nadeem (35) son of Sahib Dar resident of Chitti Bitti district Bhimber.

SRINAGAR: Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Home Department, on Friday posted Tejinder Singh, IPS, as DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range.

Tejinder Singh would be relieving Sunil Gupta of the additional charge of the post. 

“In the interest of administration, it is hereby ordered that Shri Tejinder Singh, IPS, upon repatriation to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, is posted as DIG, Rajouri-Poonch Range, against an available vacancy, relieving Shri Sunil Gupta, of the additional charge of the said post,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS. SRINAGAR : An unidentified male body was found under mysterious circumstances in Rajouri on Saturday, an official said. 

The official told GNS that a body of a male person, believed to in his thirties, was spotted by some passersby at Deri Ralyote, some 150-feet away from Rajouri-Poonch highway. 

“Soon after a police team reached the site and lifted the body for identification and other medico-legal formalities”, the official said.
 
Confirming the recovery of the body, SHO Manjakote Ibrar Ahmad told GNS that they have sought help from the public to identify the body. “Once the identity is ascertained, the body will be handed over the family for last rites”, the officer said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: In a significant developments, Rajouri Chikri Wood Craft from Rajouri district and Mushqbudji Rice of Anantnag district of have received the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag.

The process for GI Tagging of nine products was started by NABARD in consultation with Department of Handicrafts & Handloom and Department of Agriculture in December 2020, during the difficult times of COVID. The GI tags have now finally been granted to these two products after a long legal process. In total, four products have been granted GI tag with NABARD support.

Chikri is a pale, honey colored , fine grained soft wood found in hill ranges of Rajouri district of Jammu province. The Chikri woodcraft of Rajouri is characterized by intricate carving and detailing.

Similarly, Mushqbudji Rice is a premium variety of short bold aromatic rice grown in higher reaches of the Kashmir valley especially in Anantnag district. The cooked Mushqbudji Rice is unique and possesses a harmonious blend of taste, aroma and rich organoleptic properties.

Geographical Indications (GI) is a form of Intellectual Property right that identifies goods originating from a specific geographical location and having distinct nature, quality and characteristics linked to that location.

After GI tagging only an authorized user has the exclusive rights to use the Geographical Indication in relation to these products. Due to this, no person can copy it from beyond their geographical areas. This will prevent unauthorized use of these registered Geographical Indication goods by third parties, will boost exports and promote their brands at international level, thereby promoting economic prosperity of producers and related stakeholders including contribution to GDP of the country.

While speaking on the development, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Bhallamudi Sridhar, thanked the concerned departments of the UT government and congratulated all the GI applicant organizations. He further informed that earlier this year in March Basohli Painting of Kathua and Ladakh Wood Carving of Ladakh got GI tag through NABARD support. He added that five more products of J&K are in the final stages of getting GI Tag. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant has been killed in a fierce ongoing gunfight between security forces and militants in the Khaws Rajouri area of Jammu division.

Official sources told GNS one militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, a team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on a specific input in Khaws area after the presence of some militants.

As the joint team intensified the searches, the hiding militants fired upon the party, leading to an encounter.

SRINAGAR: Five persons were injured in a road accident in Kotranka area of Rajouri district on Thursday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a road accident took place in Rehan area of sub division Kotranka of Rajouri district in which five persons were injured.

He said that the car went out of control and fell into a ditch in Rehan area of Kotranka and soon after the accident, the team of police station Kandi and local people started the rescue operation and took all the injured to District Hospital Rajouri for treatment. Injured were identified as Arfana. Kosar wife of Mohd.

Alyas, Mohd.Shabir spn of Makan.Din, Mohd.Qadeer son of Nazir Hussain, Azmath Bagam wife of wali Mohd and Shamim Aktar Mohd Qadeer who all are residents of Lamdarhal Nowshera Station House Officer Kandi Shakeel Manhas said that a case has been registered in Kandi police station and investigation has been started.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A man accused of working for militants has been booked under Public Safety Act in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rajouri Police have slapped Public Safety Act on five persons for the last two months.

Police identified the ‘over-ground-worker as Muhammad Altaf Iqbal a resident of Gadyog village of Rajouri. (KNT)

SRINAGAR: An unidentified body was found in the Dangri area of Rajouri district on Thursday, officials said. They told news agency Kashmir Scroll that after a passerby informed the police about the lying body in Dangri Khalsa Chowk area of Rajouri.

The official said, adding that party rushed to the spot and recovered the body. So far, the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained.

“After completing medico-legal formalities and confirming the identification, the body would be handed over to his legal heirs,” they added. (KS)

SRINAGAR  Three women were among four people killed while eight others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Rajouri district at midnight, officials said on Wednesday.

They told GNS that a Eeco vehicle, with members of three families onboard and returning from Topa Peer Bufliaz after attending mourning rite over the death of their relative, fell into a deep gorge at Bhanghai road after the driver lost control over the vehicle around midnight. Three women identified as Shamim Akhtar (55) wife of Munir Hussain, Rubina Kouser (35) wife of Pervez Ahmed and Zarina Begum (38) wife of Mohammad Azam died on spot while nine people were injured and shifted to GMC Rajouri by local volunteers and police. However, they said, one of them Mohammad Younis (25) son of Mohammad Sadiq died on the way.

The injured have been identified as Shaheen Begum (30) wife of Mohammad Sadiq, Zaitoon Begum (35) wife of Mohammad Farooq, Shaheen Begum (45) wife of Hakam Din, Begum Jaan (50) wife of Fazal Hussain, Fatima Begum (60), Suriya Begum (35) wife of Mohammad Qasim, Kulsoom Begum (40) wife of Barkat Hussain and Mohammad Qasim (60) son of Ghulam Hussain, all residents of Bhanghai village of Tehsil Thanamandi.

 A police officer told GNS that a case has been registered and further investigations taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: 12-year-old boy died after drowning in a river in Kheora in Rajouri district this afternoon.

An official told GNS that a boy drowned while taking bath in a river at Kheora Rajouri. "Despite efforts by the onlookers, the boy could not be saved", the official said. 

The official identified the deceased as one Shahid Ali son of Sonu Ali, a resident of Kotranka. 

The body, the official said, will be handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A 48-year-old woman died after falling off a bridge in Rajouri on Thursday morning, officials said. 

They told GNS that while crossing the bridge a woman slipped and fell into a rivulet in Kandi area. Soon after, a rescue operation was launched at the site and the body of the woman recovered later on, they said.
 
The officials identified the deceased woman as Shamim Akhter, wife of Khadam Hussein, resident of Kandi Rajouri.

SRINAGAR: 7 Two women were killed and three persons including a child were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into gorge in Rajouri district, officials said on Thursday.

They said that the vehicle, Alto car, bearing registration number JK11F- 8759 met with the accident at Targai Budhal area of the mountainous district early morning. There were five people including one child, two women and as many men onboard it when the accident took place. Soon after the accident, local volunteers and police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. Two women died on the spot while three other injured were shifted to nearby hospital wherefrom two were shifted to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment, they said. 

The deceased have been identified as Ishah Jajan (40) wife of Mohammad Nazir and Shenaz Akhter wife of Mohammad Altaf Shah. The injured have been identified as Ayoub Shah (50) son of Ghulam Nabi Shah , Mohammad Akbar Shah (65) son of Mehndi Shah and 10-month-old girl child.
