SRINAGAR: A joint team of security forces arrested a militant associate affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit in Nazninpura village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday evening.

They told GNS that a joint team of Shopian Police, Army’s 44 RR and 14 Battalion CRPF tactfully arrested a militant associate namely Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, resident of Nazninpura Shopian in his native village.

“On disclosure of the arrestee, the joint team recovered arms and ammunition which included one each of 40 mm Pak origin RPG, RPG grenade and two Boosters”, they said.

“A case vide FIR number 146/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation set into motion”, they further said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said that rifle snatching bid was foiled at Imam Sahib area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A top police officer told GNS that a person namely Shahid Ahmad Dar of Trenz Mohanpora tried to snatch a weapon from a cop near camp at Imam Sahib. However due to prompt action the snatching bid was foiled.

The snatcher was apprehended during the attempt. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A man lost his life in a road accident on Mughal road in Hirpora area of South Kashmir Shopian district on Friday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that an accident took place between two tata mobiles, swift on one side and truck on other side near Hirpora shopian.

In the incident, one person lost his life who has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad from Rajouri while few more received injuries who are being shifted to hospital, he said.

Police have taken cognizance and started investigation. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Three Non-locals Labourers were injured after suspected militants fired upon them in Gagran area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday evening.

A top police officer told GNS that militants this evening fired upon three non-locals in Gagran area.

All three were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, the status of their condition was not available.

As per intial reports they have been identified as Anmol, Hirlal and Pinto. More details emerging.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: The Lieutenant Governor on Thursday ordered termination of services of two doctors under clause (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India. 

“The Lieutenant governor is satisfied after considering the facts and circumstances of the case and on the basis of the information available, that the activities of Dr. Nighat Shaheen Chiloo, Consultant Gynecologist in the Sub-District Hospital, Chadoora, Budgam (Health and Medical Education Department) D/o G.Q. Chiloo R/o Sanat Nagar, Srinagar are such as to warrant her dismissal from service,” reads a government order, a copy of which lies with GNS.

“The Lieutenant Governor is satisfied under sub-clause (c) of the proviso to clause (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold an enquiry in the case of Dr. Nighat Shaheen Chiloo and accordingly, the Lieutenant Governor hereby dismisses (her) from service, with immediate effect.”

Similar worded order has been passed against Dr. Bilal Ahmad Dalal, Medical Officer, NTPHC Takiya Imam, Shopian (Health and Medical Education Department) of Hergam, Shopian. 

“The Lieutenant Governor hereby dismisses Dr. Bilal Ahmad Dalal, Medical Officer, NTPHC Takiya Imam, Shopian (Health and Medical Education Department) S/o Ghulam Rasool Dalal R/o Hergam, Shopian from service, with immediate effect.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A 10-year-old student lost his life after allegedly falling into an 'unfenced' pond in Sedow area in south Kashmir's Shopian district this afternoon. 

Reports reaching GNS said that one Farhan Muzaffar Lone, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Lone, studying Government Middle School Sedow, fell into a pond during lunch break and by the time he was brought out, he had already lost his breathe. 

Expressing their resentment over the unfortunate incident, the locals disparaged the authorities for allegedly leaving the pond unfenced. "The absence of any fencing around the pond made it difficult for the children to identify the imminent danger, leading to the unfortunate incident", a group of locals told GNS. 

"The authorities concerned need to own the responsibility for the incident and also fence off the pond sooner than later to any such incident at some other point of time", they said adding"It becomes altogether important given the fact that the pond is near the school."

"We demand that strict action be taken against those responsible for the tragic incident", they further said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: At least three persons from Shopian were injured in a road accident in Devsar area of South Kashmir Kulgam district on Thursday morning.

An official told Kashmir Scroll that a dumper bearing registration number JK03E/2397 collided with vehicle swift car bearing registration number Jk13C 8685 at Devsar resulting in injuries to three persons. He identified injured persons as Irshad Ah Lone, 34, son of Gh Mohd, Shahnawaz Ahmad Lone,33, son of Ab Kabir and Gowhar Ahmad Dar, 33, son of Gh Mohiudin all residents of Chowan Keller Shopian.

All three were shifted to district hospital kulgam for treatment from where one among them has been referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment, he said. Meanwhile Police have registered a case and further investigation has been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A non-local labourer was found dead in a rented room in Baba Mohalla Area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday evening. An official said that a non local labourer namely Tajamul sheikh son of Afsar sheikh resident of West Bengal was found dead at his rented room in Baba Mohalla Shopian. He was evacuated to district hospital Shopian for legal-medico formalities while further investigation has been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two Lashker-e-Toiba militant associates in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that during the course of investigation of Case FIR No. 65/2023 of PS Shopian, Police alongwith Army (44 RR), CRPF (14 Bn) today arrested two more militant associates linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT. They have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Lone son of Ab Rashid Lone resident of Chotipora Shopian and Waseem Ahmad Ganie son of Ab Hamid Ganie resident of Borihalan Shopian.

The spokesman further stated that incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 pistol,01 pistol magazine, 04 pistol rounds, 01 silencer, 01 IED, 01 remote control, 02 batteries, 01 empty magazine of AK 47 rifle were recovered on their disclosure.

Pertinently, on May 02, Police along with security forces arrested a militant associate of proscribed militant outfit LeT, identified as Tanveer Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani resident of Daramdora Shopian. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK series rifle, 01 magazine and 10 rounds were recovered from his possession and a case FIR No. 65/2023 was registered in PS Shopian. Further investigation is going on, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: After brief gunfight on Wednesday, militants managed to give slip to security forces in Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A top police officer told GNS that there was a brief exchange of firing between militants and security forces.

As the firing stopped, searches were intensified at the suspected spot, where no militant was found. They might have escaped taking advantage of darkness, the officer added.

Earlier police in a tweet reported a gunfight between militants and security forces in Chakoora area of Shopian. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Chakoora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday.

Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Chakoora.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces. (GNS)
