SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Pulwama said to have booked a 'romour monger' in the district on Wednesday. 

"Today Police station Rajpora has registered FIR against one rumour monger namely Sameer Ahmed Paray son of Ab Rasheed Parray, resident of Kabikoot CB Nath as the said person has recently uploaded a false post on his fake Face book ID "Babar Azam" in which he has uploaded a photo depicting Arms and ammunition and has claimed that a new one from pulwama has joined militancy," reads a statement issued to GNS. 

The said person, the statement reads, has been found circulating incriminating content on social media there by disrupting public peace and tranquility. 

"In this regard a Case FIR no 23/2024 u/s 505(b)/IPC has been  registered in police station Rajpora and investigation set into motion."

"General public is requested to abstain from posting any false content on social media. Strict action will be taken against any person found involved in posting malicious content on internet. Pulwama police is committed to the safety and security of its citizens," the statement reads further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A court here on Monday sentenced a Pulwama resident to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed Rs 1 lakh fine on him, a week after convicting him for possessing huge quantity of contraband including over a quintal of "Bangh leaves" and 1.2 kgs Charas,.    

“…convict namely, Abdul Hamid Bhat S/o Mohammad Ismail Bhat R/o Lelhar Kakapora is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and fine of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lac only) is also imposed,” said Principal Sessions Judge  Pulwama Naseer Ahmad Dar.

“In case of default of payment of fine the convict shall further undergo simple imprisonment of three months,” the court said, as per copy of the quantum order, a copy of which lies with GNS, and ordered that Bhat shall be lodged in Special Jail (Correctional Home) Pulwama for serving the rest of the sentence.

“The period of detention already undergone by the convict during the investigation and trial of the case shall be set off.”

The court observed that a huge quantity of Narcotic drugs has been recovered from the house of convict. 

“The drug abuse and drug peddling is increasing in our society day by day. The legislature had incorporated stringent penal provisions in the NDPS Act with the object to curb this menace,” the court said.

The deterrence is sometimes need of an hour in order to send a message to likeminded people who are indulging in this menace, the court said.

“A murderer can be held guilty for murder of one or few human being but the drug abuse is  taking away precious lives of several human beings on daily basis especially youth of our society who are the most effected by this menace,” the court said, adding, “These accused persons who are indulging in the illicit trade of these drugs are actually responsible for the killing of human beings who die due to consumption of such drugs.”

 Hence, the court said, while passing the sentence upon such accused/convict found guilty under NDPS Act, no leniency should be shown, otherwise the purpose behind incorporation of stringent penal provisions in the Act would be meaningless.

According to the prosecution story, on 7 October 2018, the police station Kakapora received information from a reliable source that Bhat has concealed huge quantity of contraband substance in his residential house at Lelhara Kakapora, for illicit trade. On this, police filed FIR No. 42 of 2018 under sections 8/20 of NDPS Act. Later a police party under the supervision of DySP HQ proceeded towards Bhat's residential house and during the search they recovered nine bags of apparently Bangh leaves besides Charas powder like substance was found in one bag. The contraband substance was weighed in presence of DySP and was found 104.4 Kgs from nine bags while one bag was found containing 1.200 Kgs Charas. Bhat was subsequently arrested.

"The prosecution has been able to establish and prove its case against the accused beyond all shadow of doubt," the court had said while convicting Bhat on March 18, adding, "I accordingly hold the accused namely Abdul Hamid Bhat guilty of the offence punishable u/s 20 of the NDPS Act."  (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday said that, NIA court Pulwama declared Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo son of Ghulam Ahmed Nengroo resident of Hanjan Bala of PS Rajpora a proclaimed offender on the application moved by Pulwama Police. Ashiq Nengroo @Molvi is also declared as individual terrorist by MHA in the year 2022. 

In a handout to GNS, the police said that Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo managed to exfiltrate to PoK in the year 2018 and is currently carrying out anti-national activities from PoK and is alluring the local youths in the terrorism. He is involved in many FIRs including 42/2022, 50/2023 of PS Rajpora, 129/2013 of PS Pulwama, 89/2018 of PS Jaggerkotli Jammu and 191/2018 of PS Kathua, 20/2019 of PS Awantipora, 188/2020 of PS Pulwama and in many Anti national and terrorism related cases. After exfiltrating PoK he managed many drone dropping, weapon delivery and hawala money to keep the terrorist activities alive in the UT.

The police spokesman further stated that his name has surfaced in many FIRs in recent time, where he approach the local youth on social media, misguided them to join the terrorist ranks and also tasked them for weapon transport etc. He misguided Ruhail Abdullah son of Mohd Abdullah of Nulli Shopian involved in FIR number 116/2023 of PS Litter, Shahbaz Ahmed Dar son of Gh Hasan Dar resident of Gulshanabad involved in FIR No. 331/2023 of PS Pulwama, reads the statement. SRINAGAR: Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Pulwama on Saturday put under suspension Naib-tehsildar Tral and ordered for furnishing of an enquiry report into his conduct within a month. 

"As recommended by Addl. Deputy Commissioner Tral and pending enquiry into his conduct, Sh. Altaf Ahmad Naib Tehsildar Tral is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached with the office of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama", reads an order in this regard, a copy of which lies with GNS. 

"Sh. Ab Rashid Naib Tehsildar Lurgam shall look after the charge of Nayabat Tral in addition to his own duties till further orders", the order reads.

"It is futher ordered that the Addl. Deputy Commissioner Awantipora shall conduct the enquiry in the instant matter and furnish the enquiry report  within a period of one month", the order reads further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: District Police Baramulla Saturday destroyed a huge quantity of seized contraband substances, worth crores, in the presence of a Magistrate in Lassipora Pulwama. 

“Today, District Level Drug Disposal Committee Baramulla under the chairmanship of SSP Baramulla Sh Amod Ashok Nagpure-IPS destroyed a huge quantity of seized drugs and psychotropic substances under section 52A of NDPS Act”, said a police spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS.

“The seized contraband substances of 27 cases of Police Station Uri, Boniyar, Pattan, Kreeri, Kunzer & Tangmarg were destroyed. The seized substances include 6.303 Kgs of Heroin, 63.413 Kgs of Poppy Straw, 207 gms of Ganja, 652 gms of Cannabis, 600 gms of Cannabis Powder, 3.950 Kgs of Bang Bosa, 953 gms of Charas, 1.120 Kgs of Charas Powder & 127 gms of Fukki worth crores were destroyed at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora in presence of constituted committee headed by DySP DAR DPL Baramulla, DySP ANTF Kashmir, DySP CID CI Pulwama, Executive Magistrate Kunzer, Reader to SSP Baramulla, Field Inspector of Pollution Control board, IC Godown and other Police officers of the district”, the spokesperson said.

“It is pertinent to mention here that in July 2023 Baramulla Police also undertook the destruction of seized contraband substances in 32 cases of various Police Stations of the district. The destroyed contraband substance includes 6.376 gms of Charas, 32.900 kgs of Poppy Straw, 14.289 kgs of Heroin & 18 gms of Brown Sugar worth crores.”

“The people of the area met with the officers during the exercise and thanked them for their hard work, professionalism, and commitment towards making the society drug-free”, the spokesperson said further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A newly recruited local militant affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit was killed in a gunfight on Thursday night with security forces in Arihal area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A top police officer told GNS that during firefight one local LeT militant namely Kifayat Ayoub Alie son of Mohd Ayoub Alie resident of Pinjoora Shopian was killed.

From his possession, one pistol, two grenades, two magazines and five rounds were recovered. He had joined the outfit on 04th October this year, the officer added.

On Thrusday evening, a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Arihal area. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday seized land belonging to an incarcerated individual in twin villages of south Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said.

The officials informed Kashmir Scroll that land measuring 1 Kanal and 10.5 Marlas under Survey Number 176 out of total area of 8 Kanals and 6 Marlas at Begum Bagh, village Kralpora, District Pulwama, belonging to one Mohammad Tika Khan, son of Abdul Ahad Khan, a resident of Singoo Narbal Pulwama (presently possessed by co-sharers).

The property, the officials informed, has been attached under the provisions of UA(P)A by the order of NIA Special Court vide order dated 30.09.2023. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Gunfight has started between militants and security forces in forest area of Parigam Area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir scroll said that a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in Parigam. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. 

A top police officer also confirmed Kashmir Scroll about exchange of firing between militants and security forces. More details awaited. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A blaze has broken out in a forest in Tral area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, official sources said.

They told GNS that a fire broke out in Chan Kitaab Tral this afternoon. “Soon as the locals sighted billowing smoke from the forest, the Fire and Emergency Services Department and Forest Protection Force were called in”, they said.

“Several teams from the departments reached the site”, they said adding however due to difficult terrain, nothing much could be done.

SRINAGAR: A resident of Punjab died of cardiac arrest on Saturday in South Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said. Official sources told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a 70-year-old man identified as Gurmeet Singh, son of Dhunda Singh of Moga, Punjab, was riding a bike (TVS victor).

They said he was on his way to Litter from Rakh; however, as soon as he reached Litter main market, he felt unconscious and fell to the ground.

However, locals present there immediately took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the police in this case initiated an investigation under the U.S. 174 CRPC Act. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two Militant associates of Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that acting on specific intelligence input, an intensive search was conducted by Pulwama Police in the apple orchards of Gudoora Pulwama. During search operation, 02 militant associates were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Suhail Firdous son of Firdous Ahmad Sheikh resident of Mahradpora Utterpora Puchal and Shahid Gul son of Gh Mohd. Bhat resident of Wagum Pulwama.

The police spokesman further stated that from their possession incriminating materials were recovered. The investigation revealed that both the accused persons are Militant associates of an active militant Aqib Sher Gojri linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT.

 Preliminary investigation also reveals that arrested militant associates were in a conspiracy with militant Aqib Sher-Gojri to carry out militant attacks in Pulwama, he said.

A case vide FIR No. 239/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station & further investigation has been taken up, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir's Police's Special Investigation Unit on Saturday conducted raid in Awantipora sub district in a terror related case, police said.

The SIU Awantipora conducted raid in Wopalwan village in connection with case registered by Government Railway Police Awantipora this year. The case was later taken by SIU for investigation.

Police said the raid was conducted by the SIU in the residential house of accused Sheikh Sayurl Nisar resident of Wopalwan Awantipora and proper standard operation procedures (SOPs) were followed.

"During the search, relevant information was gathered besides, Bank pass books, Islamic books of Jahad & other incriminating materials were recovered by the SIU Awantipora," police said.

The searches were conducted to collect more evidences of his involvement in other terror crimes,they added.

The raid was conducted as part of continuing crackdown on terror elements in Kashmir. (UNI)
