SRINAGAR: Body of a youth was found by police in Rajouri district on Saturday, officials said.

They said that the body was found near a river and subsequently police, on receiving the information, recovered it. 

Confirming it SHO Rajouri told GNS that identification is being established and further prosceedings have been launched in connection with it. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The body of a non-local resident was retrieved from the Jhelum river in north Kashmir's Sopore on Monday morning, officials said.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that after a 12-hour-long rescue operation, the authorities managed to retrieve the body of a non-local resident identified as Surendra Prasad Babhanauli Kushinagar of Uttar Pradesh from the river Jehlum.

On Sunday evening, Surendra tragically drowned in the Jhelum River at Bohropora Sopore. Shortly after the incident, a joint effort involving the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and the police launched the rescue operation on Sunday.

The official further added that the body has been taken to the hospital for necessary medical and legal formalities.

SRINAGAR: A man from Srinagar ended his life after jumping into the river Jehlum from Abduallah Bridge Srinagar on Friday morning.

River police retrieved the body of the man shortly after the incident.

An official from River Police told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a man jumped from Abdullah Bridge and soon an operation was launched. He said the body of the man has been retrieved.

The official identified the deceased as Ramiz Raja Ganai, a resident of Kaksarai who was presently putting up at Sarai Balal Srinagar. (KNT)

SRINAGAR: A truck drowned in river Tawi along Jammu -Poonch national highway following which rescue operation has been launched.

An official told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that during intervening night of one truck rolled down and drowned in Manawar Tawi on Jammu Poonch highway at Dhallian area of sector Nowshera.

He said that whereabouts of driver / conductor could not be ascertained while Police/CRPF / Army started rescue operation.(KS) Further details awaited

SRINAGAR: A female body was retrieved from river Jhelum in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on friday evening.

Official sources told the news agency, Kashmir Scroll that the body later was found by some passersby near Dukalbal Sopore, adding that a police team arrived at the scene and retrieved the body from the river.

Meanwhile, a police official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that investigations into the matter are being taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A body of an unknown lady was recovered from Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal district on Wednesday officials said.

They told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that body of unknown lady was recovered from nallah Sindh village in Pathribal near Rayill Gund Ganderbal.

They said that police had taken cognizance and started investigation.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A lady tried to end her life by jumping into river Jhelum in Sopore area of North Kashmir Baramulla district on Saturday saved by 2 persons.

Sources told news agency Kashmir Scroll said that a lady jumped into river Jhelum near Chankhan Bridge. Local said that timely action of the locals saved her from drowning. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Body of a minor girl who drowned in river Pohru in Jaggerpora village in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday last was traced this afternoon, officials said. 

They told GNS that after days of relentless search operation, the body of missing girl Ronak Jan (12) daughter of Abdul Jabbar Payer 12, resident of Sulkote Kupwara was found at Awatkul, nearly 3 Kilometres from the incident site. 

"Soon after the incident was reported, a search operation was launched by Police, SDRF, NDRF, Army and MARCOS with active assistance by locals to trace the girl", they said adding however no clue was found until this afternoon. 

Pertinent to mention here that Ronak Jan (12) was among three minors who drowned in river Pohru after the trio tried to retrieve slippers' of one of a girl from the water source. 

Two of the drowned minors identified as Zehran Javid (11) son of Javid Ahmad Dar resident of Jagerpora and Sadiya Fayaz (9) daughter of Fayaz Ahmad Mir resident of Mughalpora Nagri were rescued safely with timely intervention of locals. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A tourist died after slipping into a river at Butapathri in famous ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said.

They told GNS that one Shalo Anand (46) wife of Sandeep Anand was with her family when she slipped into the river. 

The female was immediately rescued and taken to a nearby health facility, where she was however declared as brought dead on arrival, they said.

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that the tourist had head injuries which she suffered on slipping into the river. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A baby was miraculously rescued by locals and the River Police after she fell from Zero Bridge into the river Jehlum on Thursday late afternoon.

A River Police official told news agency Kashmir News Trust 2 years-old baby slipped from Zero Bridge Srinagar when she was fiddling with the wooden grills of the bridge.

River Police and the locals present there acted swiftly and retrieved the baby from the river. “She is safe and sound,” the official added.T

SRINAGAR: A body was on Wednesday found floating over waters in Jhelum river near Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said.

They told GNS that the body was sighted by non-local labourers, who intimated the authorities about it. 

Soon after intimation, SDRF reaching the spot and subsequently started an operation to retrieve the body, they said.

SRINAGAR: 45-year-old woman was washed away and her niece was rescued after the duo fell into Betar nallah (rivulet) here while crossing it on Wednesday, officials said.

They said that there was sudden rise in the water level in the rivulet and the women, Kurzam Bi wife of Mohd Sadiq and her niece Naseem Akhter wife of Safeer Hussain, both residents of Noorkote Poonch, were washed away. However, Naseem was rescued by locals and shifted to hospital. 

A police officer told GNS that there are minimal chances of survival of Kurzam Bi even as SDRF and Police are on job to trace the drowned woman. Local sources told GNS that the duo was carrying flour at the time of incident. (GNS)
