SRINAGAR: At least two firefighters were injured and three residential houses gutted in a massive fire in Batmaloo Srinagar.

An official told GNS that a fire broke out from a house in a Baranpather Batamaloo locality in area this evening.

"The raging flames spread to other houses in proximity, prompting the Fire and Emergency Services to launch a widescale rescue operation at the site," the official said adding, "During the course of time two firemen sustained burn injuries and were immediately removed to a nearby hospital." 

The official identified the injured duo as Noor Alam, DFO Incharge City and Aijaz Ahmad a Fireman. 

"As per preliminary assessment, the fire has caused massive damage to at least three residential houses at the spot," the official said.

SRINAGAR: A fire has broken out in a hotel in famous tourist resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district.

An F&ES official told GNS that they received information about the fire outbreak in a hotel ‘Pine Palace Platinum’ this morning. “We have sent the men and machinery to the site, though given the intensity of the blaze, it may take time to put out the raging flames.”

The rescue operation continued, when this report was being filed.

SRINAGAR: A fire engine on Tuesday morning turned turtle while it was on its way to douse flames broken out in a residential house in Wagoora area, an official said on Tuesday. 

An official told GNS that an information was received at F&ES Station in Kreeri on intervening Monday and Tuesday night, regarding outbreak of an fire in residential house of one Manzoor Ahmad in Durhama Wagoora. Responding to the call, the station deputed a fire engine to the site, which however due to slippery conditions turned turtle on reaching Kreeri, leaving five on board with injuries. 

"Among the injured include an LFM (Leading Fireman), three firefighters and the driver," the official said. 

The injured have been identified as Abdul Hamid Lone (LFM), Mohammad Abdullah (SgCt), Mohammad Ashraf (Mechanical Driver), Showkat Ahmad (Fireman) and Azhar Din (Fireman). 

 Confirming the incident, an F&ES Department official told GNS that two separate fire engines were sent to the site to control the fire. 

There isn't much to worry about as all the injured F&ES men are out of danger even as the fire is also controlled at the site without much damage. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: In a tragic incident, three minor sisters died after their house was gutted in a devastating fire in Ramsoo area in Ramban district,  officials said on Monday.

They said that fire broke out at about 2:00 am in the house of Abdul Latief Lone  son of Ghulam Rasool Lone at Taj Nihaal Ramsoo. In this incident, they said, second and third floor of the house was completely damaged. Tragically also, they said, three daughters of Abdul Latief Lone namely Sanya Latief, 9,  Saika Banoo, 15, and Bisma Banoo, 18, died in this incident.

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that a case has been registered and further investigations are underway. The official said that the reason  for fire is also being investigated. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A train running between Budgam to Banihal caught fire in its engine, prompting the authorities to launch an immediate rescue operation.

Officials in the knowhow of things told GNS that the railway bearing number 09760 was abruptly halted after smoke was spotted billowing out of the engine. 

"The railway authorities swung into action and resorted to fire safety measures and brought the flames under control averting injury to all the on board passengers and also any damage to the train", the official said.

SRINAGAR: Estates store of Kashmir University was damaged in a fire incident on Saturday evening, officials said.

An official told the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a fire broke out in the estates store today evening. 

He said that in the incident store was damaged, however, due to timely intervention fire was contained. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: A residential house was gutted and property worth lakhs of rupees reduced to ashes as fire broke out from a residential house at Peer Mohalla Kreeri, Baramulla on Friday evening.

Witnesses said that around 8 in the evening, a massive fire broke out from the residential house of Syed Nadim Bukhari and engulfed the entire house in no time. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes despites immediate fire fighting operation by locals who were later joined by fire servicemen.

However, timely action of fire tenders alongwith locals managed to douse the flames and kept it under control from spreading further in the locality.

SRINAGAR: A fire broke out in an electric equipment store adjacent to a residential house in Okei village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam on Tuesday morning.

Local sources said that many electronic appliances including refrigerators and washing machines were damaged in the incident, however, rescuers managed to save scores of appliances before the fire engulfed the warehouse.

They said various fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the fire. No injuries have been reported and the reason for the fire is attributed to a short circuit.

The warehouse owner remained unavailable to elaborate on the estimated cost of loss. An official said that the quantum of loss is being estimated. [KNT]

SRINAGAR: At least six shops were damaged in a midnight blaze at Batamaloo area of Srinagar, officials said.

An official told the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that at least six shops in a single-story shopping line in Batmaloo were damaged in the fire, that broke out at around 2:34 am.

He added that the shopping line comprises numerous shops, and the timely response from the F&ES personnel prevented the fire from spreading.

Futhermore, no loss of life or injuries was reported in the incident, the official said, adding that the cause of the fire is being ascertained. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: Fire and Emergency Services Department has urged public not to disrupt firefighting operations after reports of alleged disruption by the public during a fire mishap at Sherbagh Kanlibagh in Baramulla district last night. 

"On 03.12.2023 at 21:24 Hrs., Fire & Emergency Services Control Room Sopore received a fire call regarding a fire at Kanlibagh, Baramulla where one three-storeyed, concrete/wooden residential-cum-commercial building was involved in fire. The ground floor of the building was used for residential purpose, whileas the Ist and 2nd floor of the building was used by two Joinery Mills. The FCR Sopore immediately deputed the fire tenders alongwith the crew to the spot from Fire Station Baramulla", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"As it was a major fire, the reinforcement was also made by Fire Station Old Town Baramulla/Sangrama/Seelu/Sopore/Rohama and accordingly the fire was controlled in the shortest possible time."

"Apart from some disruptive elements interfering in firefighting operations, fire service received good cooperation from Police, Army and General Public", the statement reads adding "It is again reiterated that the Public should desist from approaching fire scene and should not disrupt firefighting operations." 

Notably, it was alleged that some locals expressed their resentment over alleged delay by the Fire and Emergency Services Department while reaching the site to douse off the flames. (GNS)
