SRINAGAR: A double-storey residential house was completely gutted on Monday late evening in a fire incident in Ahim-Sharif village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, leaving the family shelterless and causing loss of property, officials said.

The officials said that fire broke out in the two storey house belongs to Mohammad Akram Wani, son of Abdul Gani  Wani resident of Bilal Colony Ahim-Sharif Bandipora, resulting in the property worth laks reduced into ashes.

"However timely action of locals and fire tenders doused the flames and save the other nearby properties, “they said, adding that the cause of fire could not be confirmed immediately.(KNO).

SRINAGAR: A residential house, three shops and a transformer were damaged in separate fire incidents in Srinagar, officials said.

An official said that at around 10:53 PM, one electric transformer caught fire at Kathi Darwaza area of Makdoom Sahab Srinagar, which soon spread to two shops, causing damage to transformer and the shops as well.

He added that one residential house, double-storey also got damaged in another blaze at Kralpora area of Srinagar.

The attic portion of the house has got damaged,the officials said, adding that the cause of fire is said to be electric short circuit.

Also, one more incident of fire has taken place at Hawal Chowk in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday in which one shop at the first floor of a double-storey shopping complex was damaged.

Moreover, he added that no loss of life was reported in any of the incidents and investigations have been taken up(KNO).

SRINAGAR: At least two firefighters were injured and three residential houses gutted in a massive fire in Batmaloo Srinagar.

An official told GNS that a fire broke out from a house in a Baranpather Batamaloo locality in area this evening.

"The raging flames spread to other houses in proximity, prompting the Fire and Emergency Services to launch a widescale rescue operation at the site," the official said adding, "During the course of time two firemen sustained burn injuries and were immediately removed to a nearby hospital." 

The official identified the injured duo as Noor Alam, DFO Incharge City and Aijaz Ahmad a Fireman. 

"As per preliminary assessment, the fire has caused massive damage to at least three residential houses at the spot," the official said.

SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out at a furniture factory in the HMT area – the outskirts of Srinagar – on Friday, officials said.

An official told the news agency Kashmir News Observer that the fire broke out in the wee hours today and fire tenders have been rushed to the spot.

He said that efforts are on to douse off the flames, while cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

SRINAGAR: A non-local person was charred to death as a massive overnight blaze ravaged through a shopping complex and a hotel at Batergam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Reliable sources told GNS that a shopping complex comprising several shops and a hotel were caught in a massive blaze during the intervening Monday and Tuesday night. 

"In the incident, a tailor from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Firoz Ahmed, was stuck inside and by the time the fire was controlled the person was tragically charred to death," the sources said. 

Confirming the death of the non-local in the incident, a police official told GNS that a team has already been on the spot to collect necessary details regarding the incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A residential house was gutted and property worth lakhs of rupees reduced to ashes as fire broke out from a residential house at Peer Mohalla Kreeri, Baramulla on Friday evening.

Witnesses said that around 8 in the evening, a massive fire broke out from the residential house of Syed Nadim Bukhari and engulfed the entire house in no time. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes despites immediate fire fighting operation by locals who were later joined by fire servicemen.

However, timely action of fire tenders alongwith locals managed to douse the flames and kept it under control from spreading further in the locality.

SRINAGAR: At least seven shops of a shopping complex were gutted in a massive blaze that broke out in the main market of Kangan, officials said.

An official told the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the midnight blaze caused extensive damage, particularly to two cloth houses within the complex. 

The fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames, however, the belongings worth lakhs of rupees were damaged, said the officials.

Meanwhile, no loss of life, or any injury was reported in the incident, and the cause of fire is being ascertained. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: A massive fire has broken out in Wazir Bagh locality in central Kashmir's Srinagar district this evening. 

Reports reaching GNS said that a hotel and a restaurant are caught in a blaze at Wazir Bagh near LD hospital even as the flames continued to spread.

Meanwhile, Fire & Emergency Department employees are at site to doze off the flames - when this report was being filed.

SRINAGAR: National Conference on Monday demanded a thorough investigation into the fire incident in Dal Lake that left three Bangladeshi tourists dead.

The demand for the investigation was made by the party Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq after visiting Dal Lake where he met the fire victims.

“While it is regrettable that a tourist lost their life, he demanded a thorough investigation without causing unwarranted harassment to any of the boat owners,” a party statement said.

Sadiq also requested Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to immediately offer low-interest loans to the houseboats affected by the destructive fire in Dal Lake.

“These owners should be allowed to rebuild their boats, considering the significant impact on their livelihoods,” he said.

In early hours on Saturday, Police said a massive fire broke out in the houseboats along Ghat number nine in Dal Lake area and conflagration quickly spread and engulfed five houseboats namely Safeena, Sabreena, Young Gulshan, Lala Rukh and Khar Palace. Seven residential huts and neighbouring houses in the vicinity were also gutted in the ensuing blaze. Three tourists from Bangladesh who were staying in houseboat Safeena were charred to death. (UNI)
