SRINAGAR: Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir, R.R Swain, on Thursday conducted a comprehensive review of security measures at the newly established stations in Khari and Sangaldan, in Ramban district. 

Accompanying him were ADGP Railways, J&K, SJM Geelani, ADGP Armed/L&O, J&K, Vijay Kumar, and ADGP Jammu Zone, Anand Jain.
He interacted with the Government Railways Police and jurisdictional police officers and conducted inspection of some areas of the railway stations, a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS. He also interacted with the senior railway officers and enquired about the various facilities provided including accommodation for stationed staff.

On the occasion DIG DKR range Shreedhar Patil, SSP Ramban, SSP Railways, SSP NHW and other jurisdictional officers briefed the officers.
During the visit, the DGP in his interaction emphasised upon, enhancing the security protocols and ensuring the safety of the passengers and public assets. 

“The DGP reiterated the commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to maintaining peace and security in the region, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures in countering potential threats,” the spokesperson said.

He also took the opportunity to interact with the staff of Indian Railways, underscoring the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and railway personnel in safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of passengers and cargo.

The collaborative efforts between various law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, including Indian Railways, are vital in safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of passengers and cargo. 

“The DGP expressed confidence in the capabilities of the officers and personnel involved in ensuring the security of the newly commissioned stations.”

The DGP also emphasised on the importance of community engagement and encouraged cooperation between the police and local residents to foster a safer environment, the spokesperson added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: CPI(M) leader & former MLA M Yousuf Tarigami on Monday led a protest demonstration in Srinagar against the "privatization" of electricity, Railways and public transport.

The protestors, led by the CPI(M) leader, with banners assembled near the Press Enclave on Residency road by shouting slogans against the authorities for privatization of electricity, railways, PSEs, Public transport and installation of Smart meters to the households.

The protestors alleged that such moves will only compound and aggravate problems already faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to media persons, Tarigami said the privatization of public transport will have a direct effect on the pockets of the common people by increasing their fare.

He alleged that the Government of India is also selling railways to private companies which is not acceptable to us.

“A bill to privatize the electricity department has also been introduced in the Parliament and if that has been implemented it will have a direct effect on Kashmir water resources which are producing the electricity”, the CPI(M) leader said.

The former MLA also alleged that smart meters have been installed without providing electricity to the people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Tarigami said electricity is being produced by the water resources of J&K and demanded that it should be provided to the People of Jammu and Kashmir on priority basis.

He also demanded that by installing Smart meters, the authorities putting an extra burden on the people of J&K should be withdrawn.

Tarigami said “that the central government snatched all our rights by turning a state into the Union Territory”, adding “Home Minister Amit Shah announced in the parliament that J&K will be restored with a state status but these people here celebrate how the crown of J&K was removed recently”.

The CPI-M leader said that the authorities issued an order recently that no government employee can participate in protest strikes which even during the British rule was not done. He said this is being done only to scare the employees.

He said even during British rule, employees were protesting for genuine demands.

Tarigami said that several committees were established but were not able to take any decision about the casual labourers and daily wagers so far in Jammu and Kashmir. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: The security scenario will further be augmented with installation of Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTVs) at 16 identified railway stations in the Jammu Division.

A senior railway official told UNI that CCTVs are being installed at 16 railway stations of Jammu division falling under Ferozpur Division.

He said that the installation of CCTVs is being done under the Railway Department under Nirbhaya Fund that is being utilized towards enhancing safety and security on trains with a special focus on female travellers.

“The CCTVs will be installed at Kathua, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana and other small railway stations of Jammu division,” said an official.

He added that a joint control room will be prepared for every three stations, adding, “The expert team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) will keep an eye on every activity at the platforms.”

“Northern Railway has nodded for the project and by January 2024, the work of installing CCTVs is expected to be completed,” they added.

The official said, “ tThe video surveillance systems will be installed at 169 stations under Ferozepur division. In Jammu and Kashmir, there are 27 NSG six categories and three NSG categories i.e. a total of 30 railway stations.”

So far16 railway stations of Jammu division are being equipped with the system, adding, “as trains have brief halts at small railway stations including Bari Brahmana, Vijaypur and Majalta, so chances of crime at such locations are much higher but with installation of CCTVs the security grid will be strengthened at these small stations.” (UNI)
