SRINAGAR : An ‘Agniveer’ was killed and two others were injured in a mine blast along Line of Control in Nowshera sector in Rajouri district, an official said.

The official told GNS that a mine blast took place along forward area, leaving three soldiers injured. 

All the three, the official said, were evacuated to Command Hospital Udhampur, where one succumbed to his injuries.

SRINAGAR: The Army on Friday claimed to have apprehended one Pakistani resident along the line of control LOC in Poonch district.

Reliable sources told Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Scroll that during the night, Army's 16 Gharwal unit apprehended one Pakistani resident,who tried to cross the line along the line of control LOC in the Poonch sector.

They said more details will be shared later after proper investigation. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A 22-year-old youth who was critically injured while crossing the line of control (LOC) in Poonch district last month succumbed to his injuries today.

Reliable sources told Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Scroll that a 22-year-old youth named Yasir Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad Hussain, from the Karmada area had sustained injuries 15 days ago while attempting to cross the Line of Control (LOC) in the Poonch sector. He was immediately admitted to GMC Jammu for medical treatment for his injured condition.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that Yasir's case was registered under FIR no. 155/23 U/S 8(a)/21/22 NDPS Act, 2/3 EIMCO.

Despite receiving medical care, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries this morning. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Two unidentified militants were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday, Police said.

Police also said a major terror plan was neutralized with the killing of two infiltrators who were heavily armed.

The latest bid was foiled along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kumkadi area of Machil sector of Kupwara.

The counter infiltration operation was jointly launched by Army and police based on intelligence input provided by Kupwara Police.

“The joint team observed movement of terrorists, employing meticulous tactics, the terrorists were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of two heavily armed unidentified terrorists,” a police spokesman said.

The identification and affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained.

They said two AK series rifles, four AK magazines, 90 rounds, a Pistol (Pak origin), a pouch, cash Rs 2100 (Pak currency) & other incriminating materials was recovered from the site of encounter.

Extensive search of the area was still being carried out.

Police said the neutralized terrorists were found to be heavily armed, equipped with sophisticated weaponry which indicated their malicious intent to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the valley.

“However, due to the timely and effective response by the Police & Army, their plans were foiled and a significant threat to peace and stability in the area was neutralized,” the police spokesman said.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered.

This is the second infiltration bid that has been foiled by forces in Kashmir in the past fortnight.

On September 16, three infiltrators were killed in a gun battle in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. After that counter infiltration operation, the Army said the infiltrating militants received “fire support” from the Pakistan Army. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: An army man was left severely injured in a landmine blast along Line of Control in Rajouri district, officials said on Wednesday. 

They told GNS that one Naik Dheeraj Kumar Magrati, was injured after he accidentally stepped on a landmine, while on a patrolling duty in the forward area of LoC in the Nowshera sector. 

The injured army man was airlifted to Northern Command hospital Udhampur for immediate treatment, they further said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR:  Security forces on Friday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including five AK rifles close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, Srinagar based defence spokesman said on Friday.

The recoveries were made by a joint team of Army, Border Security Force and Police during a search operation that is still underway in Machil sector of the frontier district.

Defence spokesman Lt Col M K Sahu said that based on concrete intelligence inputs by agencies on attempts by terrorists to induct war like stores into Kashmir Valley from across the LoC, a joint operation was launched from August 15 to 18 in Machil.

“During the search operations, huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered at around 1100 hours today which include five AK Series Rifles, eight AK Magazines, seven 9mm Pistols, fifteen 9mm Pistol Magazines, four Hand Grenades, 7.62 mm AK Rounds, 7.62 mm AP Rounds and 9 mm Rounds and other incriminating material,” the spokesman said.

Lt Col M K Sahu said extensive search of the area is being carried out.

The spokesman said the recovery of such a large cache of arms and ammunition is a huge setback to the nefarious designs of terrorist organisations to disrupt peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley.

“Security Forces in complete synergy are always combat ready and are committed to keep the Valley safe and secure,” he added.

Meanwhile, a BSF spokesman said the input about cache of arms and ammunition was generated by the Force following which a joint operation was launched in Machil.

Following the recovery of arms and ammunition, Inspector General BSF, Kashmir, Ashok Yadav said that the successful operation is the result of strong operational synergy between forces on the LoC.

“The successful operation has once again thwarted attempts by various terrorist organizations to disrupt peace and tranquility in the Kashmir valley,” he said.

SRINAGAR: Army on Saturday recovered an old mine near Line of Control in Balakote Poonch and later destroyed it, officials said.

They told GNS that the mine was found near the Sabra Ghali Balakote  Sector in Mendhar area of the district.

SRINAGAR: A Soldier was injured in a landmine explosion near LoC in Jammu And Kashmir Poonch district on Monday.

A police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a soldier received injuries after the Landmine explosion took place near the LoC in Kerni Sector last Sunday night.

The injured has been admitted to the hospital, he said Meanwhile, investigation have started in this regard. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Army opened fire after observing suspicious movement in Chakan Da Bagh area near Line of Control in Poonch district, officials said on Saturday.

They said that at 2200 hours last night, there was some suspicious movement noticed by army upon which small weaponry fire was opened in Gulpur sector in the area.

Soon, they said, a search operation was launched by the army in the area. So far there was no report of any casualties or injury in this incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two militant associates of Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit along with arms and ammunition in Bijbhera area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A senior police told GNS that during checking, two persons were arrested along with arms and ammunition. They belong to LeT oufit, the officer said.

Both have been identified as Abrar ul Haq Katoo son of Mushtaq Ahmed katoo resident of Arwani Bijbehara
and Tauseef Ahmad Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat resident of Shetipora Bijbehara, the officer said.

From their possession, 12 AK 47 rounds,one Grenade and Rs 1 lac were recovered, the officer said.

Meanwhile, an FIR No.150/23 has been registered in police station Bijbhera and investigation has been taken up, the officer added.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: A nocturnal encounter has broken out in Jumgund area along Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Kashmir Zone Police taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, as per GNS, said an encounter has broken out after specific input was received by the security forces.

“An encounter has started between militants and joint parties of Army & Police on a specific input of Kupwara Police in Jumagund area of LoC of Kupwara district. Further details shall follow," reads the tweet. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: An infiltrator was injured while as two more were apprehended alive in Khari Sector of Poonch on Wednesday.

An official told news agency, Kashmir Scroll that an infiltration bid foiled near Chetan Post in Khari sector of Poonch District. One Infiltrator was injured while two apprehended were alive, he said, adding that Arms and ammunition drugs packet were recovered from their possession. Search operation is going on in the area, he said. (KS)
