SRINAGAR: Night temperature recorded further drop on Saturday as more rains lashed J&K with Banihal receiving highest rainfall in Jammu region and Pahalgam in Kashmir Valley during the last 24 hours, officials said.

A meteorological department official here told GNS that Banihal received 43.8mm of rain during the time till 0830 hours followed by Katra with 37.4mm, Pahalgam 35.4mm, Kokernag 30.2mm, Srinagar 29.7.8mm, Batote 29.2mm, Gulmarg 26.6mm, Qazigund 22.6mm), Kupwara 20.2mm),  Bhaderwah 16.0mm,  and Jammu 8.0mm.

Regarding night temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 6.8°C against 8.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 0.7°C for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 7.2°C against 8.4°C on the previous night and it was 2.5°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.3°C against 5.0°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 6.6°C against 7.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C above normal, the official said.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 5.4°C against 7.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.9°C above normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against 0.4°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 0.3°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 16.4°C and it was below normal by 0.2°C for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal, Batote and Bhaderwah recorded a low of 8.2°C each, he said.

With regard to the forecast, he said, while fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snow/TS is expected over Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours, decrease in precipitation is likely from March 31.

Generally dry weather has been forecast thereafter till April 5 with light rain expected at isolated places on April 3. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority on Friday issued a medium- danger level avalanche warning for four districts of Kashmir division. 

Avalanche with medium danger level is likely to occur above 2400 metres over Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla and Ganderbal districts in next 24 hours, reads an advisory as per GNS.

People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders.

SRINAGAR: With overnight cloud cover amid forecast for wet spell, night temperature recorded an increase in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.     

A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a minimum of 9.5°C against 5.4°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 34°C for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 8.0°C against 4.4°C on the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 4.7°C against 0.7°C on the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 7.7°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was 3.5°C above normal, the official said.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 7.7°C against 3.3°C on the previous night and it was 3.2°C above normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.0°C against 2.8°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 3.8°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

On March 29, the MeT official said, partly cloudy weather with light rain/snow is expected at isolated places.

SRINAGAR: Rains lashed plains while upper reaches including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall, officials said on Friday.   

A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar received 9.7mm of rain in last 24 hours till 0830 a.m.

He said Qazigund received 3.4mm, Pahalgam 16.0mm, Kupwara 9.2mm, Kokernag 2.9mm, Jammu 0.1mm, Banihal 9.0mm, Batote 10mm, Katra 3.4mm and Kathua 2.6mm while Gulmarg recorded 1.5cms snowfall during the time.

With regard to the forecast, he said, weather was likely to improve even as light to moderate rain/Ts may occur over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

From March 23-26, he said, generally dry weather with brief cloudiness is expected.

On March 27, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain/snow at few places.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 6.4°C against 2.4°C on the previous night and it was 2.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.0°C against minus 1.1°C on the previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 8.2°C against 4.0°C on the previous night and it was 4.7°C above normal, the official said.

While generally dry weather has been forecast during the next 24 hours, a meteorological department official here told GNS that there is possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places with thunder/lightning & gusty winds over plains of Kashmir and Jammu division from March 21-22.

On March 23, he said, weather is expected to be generally dry weather and on March 24, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain/snow at few places.

From March 25-26, he said, generally dry weather is expected while from March 27-28, weather is generally going to be partly to generally cloudy with possibility light rain/snow at few place.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.2°C against 2.5°C on the previous night which was below normal by 0.5°C for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 2.4°C against 2.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

“From March 21-22, generally cloudy weather with possibility of light rain/snow is expected at many places with thunder/lightning & gusty winds over plains of Kashmir & Jammu Division,” he said, adding, “On March 23, generally dry weather is expected while partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain/snow at few places is expected on March 24-25.”

A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.5°C against previous night’s 1.0°C. It was below normal by 0.5°C for the summer capital of J&K for this time of the year, the MeT official told GNS.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 2.0°C against 1.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 2.4°C against minus 1.3°C on the previous night and it was 1.1°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.1°C against minus 0.3°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 1.0°C for the place, the official said.

MeT also issued an advisory cautioning about the disruption of surface and air transport in the valley.

It said that an active Western disturbance is most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from 29th evening/night onwards.

Under the influence of this system, it said, widespread moderate rain/snow is expected in Jammu and Kashmir from 29th night/early morning of 01 March till the afternoon of 3rd March with its peak activity on 2nd March.

“The above system is most likely to cause heavy to very heavy rain/snow over Pirpanjal Range of Jammu division and middle & higher reaches of Kashmir Division (Anantnag-Pahalgam, Kulgam, Sinthan Pass, Shupiyan-Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg-Zojila, Bandipora-Razdan Pass, Gulmarg and Kupwara-Sachna Pass),” read the advisory.

The weather activity may lead to disruption of surface and air transport including Jammu-Srinagar highway and other major roads of middle and higher reaches of J&K.

It urged the people in snow bound areas to avoid venturing into sloppy and Avalanche prone areas.
“Chances of landslides, mudslides & shooting stones most likely over the vulnerable areas,” it said, adding, “Farmers are advised to withhold all farm operations during 1st week of March.” 

While ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh period of winter ended on January 29 and 20-day-long winter period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ ended on February 19, Kashmir is the middle 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which culminates on March 1. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Rains and snow lashed Kashmir Valley as Pahalgam received nearly 3 inches of snowfall, officials said.   

A meteorological department official here said amid cloud cover, there was also increase in night temperature across Jammu and Kashmir.   

He said Srinagar received 2.6mm of rain since overnight till 0830 hours and recorded a minimum of 1.0°C against previous night’s minus 2.0°C. It was below normal by 0.5°C for the summer capital of J&K for this time of the year, the MeT official told GNS.

Qazigund received 0.4mm of rain and recorded a minimum of 1.2°C against minus 2.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam received 7.4cms of snow and recorded a low of minus 1.3°C against minus 7.0°C on the previous night and it was 2.2°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, received 0.6mm of rain and recorded a minimum of minus 0.3°C against minus 2.8°C on the previous night and the temperature was below normal by 0.4°C for the place, the official said.

Kupwara town received 1.0mm of rain and recorded a low of 0.4°C against minus 3.5°C on the previous night and it was 3.5°C below normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg received 4.0 cms of snow and recorded a low of minus 6.4°C against minus 9.0°C on the previous night. The temperature was below normal by 0.6°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.
