SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday said that its Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Awantipora today presented chargesheet before the NIA Court Pulwama.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that it presented chargesheet in court in a case FIR No. 37/2022 under section 7/27 Arms Act, 307 IPC, 16 18, 19, 23, 38, 39 UAPA Act of Police Station Tral.

According to police spokesman, the chargesheet was presented against a militant associate Sameer Ahmad Mohand son of Gh Mohmmad Mohand resident of Sheerabad Tral, Pulwama & two killed militants namely Shafat Muzffar Sofi son of Muzffar Sofi resident of Batgund Tral and Umar Nabi Teli son of Gh Nabi Teli resident of Ladhoo Pampore, reads the statement. SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday busted a militant hideout in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district and recovered arms and ammunition from it, police said .

They said a hideout was busted in the Lolab area of the district. Police claimed the recovery has certainly averted a suspected misadventure by militants, overground workers and their nefarious attempts to disturb the peace and tranquility in the area

Police said a specific input from a reliable source with respect to an old hideout and presence of some arms and ammunition in the general area of Kangur Nala, Tekipora was received by Rashtriya Rifle sector deployed in Charkut, Lolab on early morning of June 6.

“The 28 RR deployed in Lolab immediately launched a jungle search operation in the said area. The search did not yield any result despite thorough combing yesterday (Tuesday),” a police statement said.
“However, the source was quite sure of the presence of the hideout... Hence, additional columns of RR and Special Forces were inducted in early hours today (Wednesday) and the area was again combed from Kowut Top astride Kangur Nala. Thorough search & perseverance resulted in busting of a hideout astride Kangur Nala.”

Police said arms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout. The recovery included a Under Barrel Grenade Launcher Russian made, one UBGL grenade, six Chinese grenades type 1, two Chinese hand grenades, two magazines of AK 47, some AK 47 rounds, a binocular and a pouch.

“The items have been deposited by the RR battalion with the Police as per norms. The successful recovery has certainly averted a suspected misadventure by terrorists/OGW & their nefarious attempts to disturb the peace & tranquility in the area,” police said.

Legal action has been initiated by Police into the recovery of arms and ammunition, they added. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: In consonance with the policy of the government for zero tolerance towards anti State activities, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) and the Executive Wing of J&K Police has widened the legal framework against terror funding by attaching 124 properties, land and buildings, situated across J&K at 86 locations.

These properties, during the course of investigation in militant related cases, have been established prima facia to be either proceeds of terrorism or used in such activities which are aimed at furtherance of terrorism and secessionism.

Invoking provisions of section 8 and section 25 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), SIA and executive wing of police, after orders from competent authorities designated under UAPA, have set into motion legal process for forfeiture of these tainted properties, by courts having relevant legal and territorial jurisdiction.

Nearly, 77 of these properties belong to proscribed organisation Jamat-e-Islami, which have been notified under Section 08 of UAPA in Case FIR number 17/2019 U/S 10, 11 and 13 UA (P) Act of Police Station Batamaloo being investigated by SIA.

Exhibiting strong resolve against terrorism, the action therefore has been taken following due process of law, to deracinate the terror support system, as per requirements of international charters and conventions against terrorism. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Candle-light marches are being held in twin south Kashmir districts, Anantnag and Pulwama, to denounce the killing of an Udhampur resident in a suspected militant attack yesterday in Anantnag.

Reports reaching GNS said that a sizable number of civil society members gathered at prominent locations in Anantnag and Pulwama carrying banners and candles as a mark of protest vis-à-vis the killing of Deepu Sharma on Monday evening.

The local citizen demanded that the assailants be dealt with an iron fist for this unforgivable crime against a particular community and humanity at large.

The marches in both the districts continued when this report was being filed. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh for the next of kin of Deepu, who was killed by militants in Anantnag on 29th May 2023.

According to statement issued to GNS, The Lt Governor has also approved Rs. 5 lakh each for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to a tragic bus accident today in Jammu and Rs. 50,000 each for those seriously injured.

He has directed the district administration to take care of the treatment and provide all assistance to the bereaved families, reads the statement. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Special Investigation Unit of J&K Police presented chargesheet before the Special designated NIA Court Srinagar against five militant associates.

In a handout to GNS, police said that SIU Srinagar unit produced chargesheet of case (FIR number 41/2022) under section 7/25 A.Act, 13, 18, 23, 39, UA(P) Act of Police Station Shalteng. The case pertains to the recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition by Police, 2RR and 44bn CRPF at a checkpoint established at Tri-junction Narbal highway on 20 November last year from the possession of three militant associates. They were identified as Rouf Safeer Dar son of Abdul Rashid Dar, Javiad Ahmed Khanday son of Ghulam Hassan Khanday, both residents of Khanday Mohallah Pattan and Mohammad Iqbal Dhobee son of Manzoor Ahmed Dhobee of Aram Mohallah Pattan. They were transporting the arms and ammunition in a TATA (JK15-2207) from Srinagar to Pattan on the instance of one militant alias Hamza of LeT. “The vehicle as proceeds of militancy and on prior approval was attached for further proceedings.

According to spokesman, the case was further investigated which resulted to nomination of other two militant associates namely Shakir Ahmed Zargar son of Nisar Ahmed Zargar of Khanday Mohallah Pattan, Waris Ramzan Gojre son of Mohd Ramzan Gojre resident of Malpora Pattan and Hamza.

“The investigation of the case has been closed against said five militant associates under section 173 CrPC and chargesheet was produced before NIA Court Srinagar today.” The investigation of the case will remain continue under section 173(8) CrPC in order to effect the arrest of other involved persons and determination of details after obtaining expert opinions, police added.
