SRINAGAR: Directorate of Enforcement (ED) Friday raided eight locations in summer-capital Srinagar during which it arrested two persons in Money Laundering case. 

"Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has conducted search/survey operations at 8 locations in Srinagar, J&K and has arrested two persons namely Mohammad Shafi Dar (the then Chairman of JKSTCB) and Hilal Ahmad Mir (Chairman of River Jehlum Co-operative House Building Society), under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in a case related to the fraudulent sanctioning of loan by J&K State Co-operative Bank (JKSTCB) to the tune of Rs. 250 Crores in 2019 to a fake cooperative society named River Jehlum Co-operative House Building Society, Shivpora, Srinagar", reads a statement issued to GNS. 
 
"ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR and consequent chargesheets filed by LEA, Srinagar invoking various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) & Jammu & Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act (JK PC Act) Samvat 2006 (Corresponding to IPC and PCA) against 05 accused persons viz. Hilal Ahmad Mir (Chairman of River Jehlum Co-operative House Building Society), Abdul Hamid Hajam (Secretary of River Jehlum Co-operative House Building Society), Mohammad Mujeeb Ur Rehman Ghassi (the then Registrar of Cooperative Societies, J&K), Syed Ashiq Hussain (the then Dy. Registrar of Co-operative Societies, J&K) and Mohammad Shafi Dar (the then Chairman of JKSTCB)."
 
"ED investigation revealed that the aforementioned persons had managed to fraudulently get the sanction of a loan of Rs.250 Crore from JKSTCB in the name of a fake society, River Jhelum Co-operative House Building Society. The same was siphoned off as payments made towards purchase of land parcels, without any collateral security and overlooking all regulatory procedures, and in pursuance of the criminal conspiracy relating to offence of money laundering under PMLA, 2002", the statement reads. 
 
"During the course of search operations, several incriminating documents, property documents, including digital devices, have been recovered and seized. Both the arrestees were produced on Friday before the Special PMLA Court, Srinagar, who has ordered the accused to be in ED Custody till 02.12.2023 and directed for further hearing in the matter", reads the statement further.

SRINAGAR: In continuation to searches conducted on yesterday, State Investigation agency (SAI) Kashmir on Friday conducted searches at multiple locations falling in district Srinagar (02 locations). Pulwama (07 Locations) and Anantnag (01 location).

In a statement to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) the searches were conducted in wee hours as part of ongoing investigation in case FIR No. 08/2023 of Police Station SIA Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention that this is a terror funding case in which money amounting to 85 crores has been raised and laundered through covert channels which is suspected to be used in funding terrorism and secessionism in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir, it said.

Today’s operation marks the second round of searches in this case while SIA has already conducted extensive searches on Wednesday at New Delhi and various districts of Kashmir valley, the statement said, adding that the special teams of SIA have recovered incriminating material in the shape of electronic gadgets like mobile devices , laptops. SIM cards and documents like, passports, cheques, passbooks, credit/debit cards etc. 

State Investigation Agency once again affirmed its resolve in dismantling the terror ecosystem from Jammu & Kashmir, the statement added. (KDC)

SRINAGAR: In a terror funding case the State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday raided multiple locations in Kashmir and New Delhi.

A top official told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot that in a terror funding case SIA Kashmir is conducting raids at dozens of places in New Delhi, Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama.

These searches are being carried out in pursuance of search warrants issued by the Special Court, the official said, adding that, the raids are being carried in FIR no 08 of 2023.

“During the searches, various incriminating documents and electronic devices are being seized from the premises of the suspects”, official sources said adding that further investigation of the case is on and details of the case will be shared later, they said.

If sources are to be believed the SIA’s actions come as a result of a thorough investigation, which has led them to believe that some prominent individuals may have connections to this terror funding case. While the names of these individuals remain confidential, they are reportedly on the radar of the SIA, they added. (KDC)

SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at several places in Kashmir on Tuesday in an NGO terror funding case, officials said.

They said that nine locations in several districts of J&K were raided by the anti terror agency. The raids were carried out by sleuths of the NIA with the assistance of police and the CRPF.

Officials said the case relates to NGOs and trusts diverting funds meant for charitable activities to "secessionist and separatist activities" in Jammu and Kashmir.

The case was registered on October 8, 2020, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on receiving "credible information that certain NGOs and Trusts are collecting funds domestically and abroad through so-called donations and business contributions" and then using them to fund terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Some of these NGOs have links with proscribed terrorist organisations such as Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), etc. Further, funds collected by such NGOs, Trusts, and Societies are sent to Jammu & Kashmir through various channels, such as cash couriers and hawala traders based in Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, and other parts of India, to sustain the secessionist and terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley, as a part of a larger criminal conspiracy hatched by these NGOs, Trusts, and Societies, etc., prejudicial to the unity, integrity, sovereignty, and security of India," the officials added. SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday raided the residential premises of an absconding militant in the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terror conspiracy case.

The accused Riaz Ahmed alias Hazari, on whom the NIA has announced a cash reward of Rs. 3 lakh for leads, is a resident of Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir.

The spokesman of the NIA said the searches conducted today at his house led to the seizure of one mobile phone, which is being analysed.

The case, registered initially by Anti Terror Squad (ATS), Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh on September 12, 2018, was re-registered by NIA under UA (P) Act on September 24, 2018.

The case, registered against one Kamruj Zaman and others, related to a criminal conspiracy to carry out terror attacks by HM cadres at different places in UP and other parts of India.

The spokesman said Kamruj and one absconding accused, Osama Bin Javed, were chargesheeted in NIA Special Court, Lucknow on March 11, 2019 under various sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Osama was killed in an encounter with security forces on September 28, 2019 in Ramban district of J&K.

Subsequently, on May 29, 2021, a Supplementary Chargesheet was filed against arrested accused persons Nisar Ahmad Sheikh and Nishad Ahmad Butt, both residents of J&K.

A second supplementary chargesheet was filed against arrested accused Danish Naseer on November 25, 2022.

Investigations have revealed that accused Kamruj Zaman was radicalized by Osama Bin Javed to join the HM and both received nine months of physical and weapon-handling training by HM cadres.

Absconding accused Riaz, an active militant and district Deputy Commander of the HM, along with another co-accused Mohammad Amin alias Jahangir Saroori, also an active militant and District Commander of HM, was involved in recruiting and training accused Kamruj Zaman and Osama Bin Javed in the forests of Kishtwar district of J&K.

After completion of training, Kamruj was directed to set up bases and hideouts, and select targets in U.P, Assam and other parts of India for terrorist activities. Accordingly, he had come to Kanpur where he had also carried out reconnaissance of a few targets. (UNI)
