SRINAGAR: A gangster and an Assistant Sub Inspector of police were killed and an SPO was injured during an encounter within the premises of Government Medical College Kathua, officials said on Wednesday.

They said that based on a tip off, a police party from Ramgarh started chasing “notorious faction of gangsters-Shunoo group-led by one Vasudev” and on noticing the same, the gangsters moved their vehicle into the premises of the Government Medical College Kathua at around 22:45 hours of April 2.  The gangsters, they said, opened fire at the police party, injuring a Sub-Inspector (probationer), Deepak Sharma, and an SPO identified as Anil Kumar. The fire was retaliated and in the ensuing “cross firing”, the accused gangster Vasu Dev alias Shanu, said to be a key accused in a murder case (93/2023 U/S 302/148/149/212/120-B IPC 3/4/25 Arms Act) registered at police station Ramgarh Samba, was killed.   
In the meanwhile, they said the injured were admitted to GMC and later ASI was referred to Amandeep hospital Pathankot for further treatment.    However the ASI succumbed to the injuries today, they added.  

Also Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Dysp Headquarters and SHO Kathua besides other police officials reached the spot at the Medical College for first hand details. 

Confirming it, a police officer told GNS that a case has been registered with regard to the incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday said that it attached the residential house of a militant associate in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that today, it attached the residential house of a terrorist associate namely Mohammad Ramzan Mir S/O Ab. Salam Mir R/O Rudbugh Magam who is an OGW of the proscribed militant outfit LeT.  Pertinently during investigation of FIR No. 05/2023 U/S, 307-IPC 7/27 Arms Act 16, 19, 20, 23, 39 UA (P) Act of P/S Magam  Unlawful Activities Prevention Act it had come to fore that the property under survey No.68 min belonging  to Mohammad Ramzan Mir resident of Radbugh Magam had been acquired as proceeds of terrorism in terms of 2(g) of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, which was  also willfully used for  harbouring of militants, he said.

The police spokesman further stated that district Police Budgam has reiterated its resolve to continue its endeavour for identification and initiation of legal actions against all such properties that are being wilfully used for harbouring militants, reads the statement

SRINAGAR: A cross-border terror module involved in smuggling of arms and ammunition was busted and five terror-associates arrested in Karnah Kupwara, Police said on Saturday. 

"Acting on credible information from own sources and corroborated by other sister agencies and counterparts Kupwara Police along with 09 PARA Field Regiment has busted a terror module involved in smuggling of various arms and ammunition sent by two POK based LeT terrorist handlers namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh alias Shakoor son of Wali Mohammad Seikh resident of Gabra Karnah and Qazi Mohammad Khushal son of Qazi Syed Yaseen R/o Dhanni Karnah both at present operating from across the border, by arresting one Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Noor Hussain Bhat resident of Rear Sudhpora Karnah from whom so far various incriminating materials like AK Rifle: 01 No; AK Magazine: 1No; AK Rounds: 20 No; Pistol: 02 No and Pistol Magazine: 02 No", reads the statement issued to GNS.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that in the recent past the above two handlers from across were in touch with the said Zahoor who hails from a village which is in proximity with LoC with various means."

"The consignments so dispatched to this side from across were thereafter delivered to other terror associates who were in contact with Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and the said handlers as well", reads the statement. 

"Based on the further leads, four more terror associates namely Khursheed Ahmad Rather S/o Lt. Mohd Yousuf Rather R/o Gabra, Karnah; Mudassir Shafiq S/o Shafiq Ahmad R/o Gabra, Karnah; Ghulam Sarwar Rather S/o Mohd Yousuf Rather R/o Gabra Karnah and Qazi Fazal Illahi S/o Qazi Mohammad Anwar have also been arrested, arms and ammunition and other incriminating material recovered from them including: AK Rifle (Short) = 05 No, AK Magazines = 05 No, Short AK Rounds = 16 Nos", reads the statement. 

"The case is being investigated expeditiously in a comprehensive manner to further unearth the conspiracy regarding the smuggling of arms and ammunition and proscribed material/contraband", reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said to have busted an over-the-ground-worker module in Beerwah of central Kashmir's Budgam district. 

"The Budgam Police has dismantled a module comprising seven individuals from the Beerwah area. These individuals were involved in the dissemination of anti-national terrorist propaganda by affixing posters in and around the Beerwah area", said a police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS. 

The arrested persons, as per the statement, have been identified as  Romain Rasool Sheikh Irfan Nazir Sheikh, Rizwan Nazir Sheikh, Sahil Javid Sheikh all resident of Bonet Beerwah, Jahangir Bashir Mir, Tariq Ashraf Sheikh, both residents of Utligam Beerwah and Shakir Lateef Pathan, resident of Gandhipora, Beerwah.

"The module was led by Romain Rasool Sheikh and Irfan Nazir Sheikh, who during investigation were found manipulated by a LeT’s Pakistani handler", the statement reads. 

"It further emerged that the duo, acting as local motivators, instructed the other five individuals to carry out the assigned tasks", reads the statement adding incriminating evidence has been recovered from the apprehended persons. 

"Investigation in the case is in progress", the statement read. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit associate alongside arms and ammunition in Baramulla.

"Police alongwith security forces arrested militant associate linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT and recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition from his possession in Baramulla", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"On a specific input of militant movement in Kreeri area, a joint Naka was established at Shrakwara Kreeri near Bus Stand by Baramulla Police &  Army 52 RR. During naka checking suspicious movement of one person coming towards naka point by foot was observed. While seeing police party and security forces, the suspect person tried to flee from the spot but alert naka party apprehended him tactfully."

"During preliminary questioning, he was identified as Imran Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Qayoom Ganie resident of Nowpora Wagoora Kreeri", reads the statement. 

"During his search 1 Chinese Pistol, 1 Pistol Magazine, 9 Pistol Rounds & 1 Mobile Phone (Samsung) was recovered from his possession", reads the statement. 

"In this regard, case under sections UA (P) & Arms Act has been registered in PS Kreeri and investigation has been taken up", reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police, J&K R.R. Swain has condoled the heroic loss of Inspector Masroor Ahmad who succumbed to injuries at (AIIMS) New Delhi today.

In a handout to GNS, police said that In his message, the DGP has said, “as the Director General of Police, it is with profound sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani.”

SRINAGAR: Jammu and police inspector who was injured in a terrorist attack in Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS New Delhi on Thursday.

A top official told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the police inspector identified as Masroor Ahmad of Srinagar was taken to New-Delhi for treatment, however he succumbed to his injuries today.

Police Inspector Masroor Wani was attacked by a pistol-borne terrorist last month when he was playing cricket with other members of the local community at Eidgah Srinagar.

After undergoing treatment for over a month, Masroor was shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday for specialised treatment.

“He was taken to Srinagar Airport from there where he was shifted in Air Ambulance to New Delhi,” Police said. (KDC)

SRINAGAR: Fire and Emergency Services Department has urged public not to disrupt firefighting operations after reports of alleged disruption by the public during a fire mishap at Sherbagh Kanlibagh in Baramulla district last night. 

"On 03.12.2023 at 21:24 Hrs., Fire & Emergency Services Control Room Sopore received a fire call regarding a fire at Kanlibagh, Baramulla where one three-storeyed, concrete/wooden residential-cum-commercial building was involved in fire. The ground floor of the building was used for residential purpose, whileas the Ist and 2nd floor of the building was used by two Joinery Mills. The FCR Sopore immediately deputed the fire tenders alongwith the crew to the spot from Fire Station Baramulla", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"As it was a major fire, the reinforcement was also made by Fire Station Old Town Baramulla/Sangrama/Seelu/Sopore/Rohama and accordingly the fire was controlled in the shortest possible time."

"Apart from some disruptive elements interfering in firefighting operations, fire service received good cooperation from Police, Army and General Public", the statement reads adding "It is again reiterated that the Public should desist from approaching fire scene and should not disrupt firefighting operations." 

Notably, it was alleged that some locals expressed their resentment over alleged delay by the Fire and Emergency Services Department while reaching the site to douse off the flames. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: State Investigation Agency (SIA) has arrested one lady namely Shabroza Bano, wife of Sarjan Ahmad Wagay alias ‘Barkati’ of South Kashmir. She, along with her husband has been found involved in terror financing by raising money through crowdfunding.

Case FIR No 02/2023 U/S 13,17,18,21,39,40 UA(P) Act, 120-B IPC of police station, SIA pertains to the involvement of Barkati family in orchestrating an extensive fund-raising campaign through crowd funding, resulting in the generation of funds amounting to crores, SIA said in a statement to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, adding that these funds were subsequently misused, involving money laundering and acquisition of undisclosed assets for propagation of radicalism within the Kashmir valley. While Sarjan Barkati was arrested in August this year, his wife Shabroza Bano has been evading arrest after her role surfaced in the case. During the investigation of SIA Shabroza Bano came out as one of the conspirators and was found hand in glove with her husband and Pak based terror handlers in the terror funding case. The investigation reveals that Shabroza Bano has remained in constant contact with Pakistani handlers through encrypted messaging platforms.  Consequently, she was arrested today on 24.11.2023, they said.                

The agency said "Barkati and his family had managed to raise approximately Rs 1.74 crores through crowdfunding campaigns. These funds were raised for personal gains and a significant portion of the collected funds was allegedly misused for undisclosed purposes, including financing of secessionist and terrorist activities. A substantial portion of the acquired funds had been deposited in various Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) under the names of Barkati’s family members, raising questions about the legitimacy of the sources and utilization of the funds."

Pertinent to mention that the main accused in the case Sarjan Barkati was a prominent figure in organizing large-scale protests, rallies, and clashes with security forces in 2016 the agency said. During that period he was instrumental in abetting youth to storm security forces establishments for which more than 30 FIRs were registered against him in various police stations of the valley, they added.
