SRINAGAR: A 24-year-old resident of Doda died due to electric shock in Kargil on Saturday, officials said.

An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that a man identified as Shehbaz Hussain Lohar (24) of Gundna Doda suffered an electric shock when he came in contact with live wire in the Kargil region.

The officer said he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The officer further said that the body will be handed over to his family after completing of medico legal formalities. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Two persons including an army soldier on Thursday slipped into River Chenab and are feared dead in Doda district, officials said.

They said that about 1200 hours, the do identified as 25-year-old Rohit Singh (serving in Army) son of Remesh Kumar and Sunil Kumar (24) son of Ram Raj, both residents of Durga Nagar Khallani Doda drowned in Chenab River near Durga Nagar while they were washing their hands after performing last rites (cremation) of their relative on the bank of the water body.

Soon after getting information, a police party headed by Dy.SP Headquarters Doda rushed to the spot and along with locals and teams of SDRF launched a rescue operation.

Confirming it, SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom told GNS that hitherto there was trace of the duo and efforts are underway to find them. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Two persons drowned in river Chenab in Doda district on Thursday following which rescue operation has been started. 

Asenior police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll said that two persons namely Rohit Singh S/O Remesh Kumar (serving in Army) age 25 yrs and Sunil Kumar S/O Ram Raj age 24 yrs both resident of Durga Nagar Khallani (Doda) drowned in Chanab River near village Durga Nagar while they were washing their hands after performing last rights of their relative on the bank of River Chanab.

He said police officers are on Spot and supervising the search and rescue operation launched by Police and team of SDRF along with locals of the area.(KS)

SRINAGAR: Three persons lost their lives and one was injured in road accident in Doda district on Tuesday late evening.

A senior police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that one alto car no Jk 06 6559 on its way from Thathri towards Gandoh when reached Bamboo rolled down from the road about 500 feet in deep George. He said that in the incident Three person died and one was injured who have been shifted to hospital for treatment. 

The Three deceased persons were identified as Bilal Ahmed s/o Taj Din R/o Druri Gandoh age 30 y and Insha D/o Ayaz Ahmed age 12 yrs R/o Dhosa Gandoh Muzaffar Hussain R/o Sanwara Teshil Gandoh. One injured were identified as Danish Ayaz Ahmed R/o Dhosa age 14 yrs.(KS)

A senior police officer told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that one alto car no Jk 06 6559 on its way from Thathri towards Gandoh when reached Bamboo rolled down from the road about 500 feet in deep George.

He said that in the incident two person died and two others were injured who have been shifted to hospital for treatment.

SRINAGAR: Parts of Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rainfall with Katra recording “extremely” heavy downpour of 315.4mm in 24 hours which is all-time heaviest for the area, officials said on Wednesday.  

A meteorological department official here told GNS while Katra received all time rain of 315.4mm in 24 hours till 0830 hours this morning; it surpassed the 292.4mm record recorded on 31st July 2019.

Other parts of Jammu and Kashmir also received rainfall in the last 24 hours with Jammu recording 109mm, Banihal 10mm and Batote 15mm.

Regarding forecast for next 24 hours, he said, rainfall was likely in few hours and decrease thereafter.

From July 20-22, he said, intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershower w4as likely at “many places” of Jammu and at scattered places of Kashmir.

“Heavy to very heavy rain is possible at some places of Jammu region during this week,” he said.

The MeT official said that there was risk of “flash flood, mudslide, and landslides has increased due to heavy rain. “

People, he said, are advised to remain cautious and stay away from Streams, Rivers and other vulnerable spots.

Meanwhile, authorities have closed all government and private schools in Doda district for the well-being of the students in view of the heavy rainfall.

Deputy Commissioner Doda also directed all the concerned that “students must be informed, well in advance, about the closure of the schools so that they do not venture out.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A teenager boy drowned to death in Bhagwah district Doda on Friday officials said.

They told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a teenager boy namely Faizan Ahmad son of Sher Mohammad resident of Bhagwah drowned in a Nallah at Bhagwah Doda while take a bath. He died on the spot and after legal formalities his dead body was handed over to legal heirs for last rites, they said.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and started investigation.(KS)

SRINAGAR: Tremors were felt on Monday morning when two mild-intensity earthquakes jolted the hilly Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The twin quakes were reported within a gap of five minutes.

As per officials, the first earthquake of 4.9 Magnitude was reported at 5:38 am with an Epicenter of 33.15°N / 75.68°E and depth: 10 km.

Meanwhile, at 5:43 am, a second earthquake of 3.6 Magnitude was reported having an epicenter of 33.15°N / 75.7°E and a depth of 8 km.

He said that the Udhampur, Jammu and Srinagar cities also felt mild tremors.

A senior official from Doda said that no injury or any damage was reported as of now because of earthquakes. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: At least five people were killed and seven others injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on Bhaderwah Pathankot road in Doda district on Tuesday afternoon.

Official sources told GNS that Trax vehicle (JK06-5071) met with the accident near Guldanda, leading to on the spot death of five people and injuries to seven others. The injured were removed to hospital by local volunteers and police personnel, they said.

 SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom told GNS that five people were declared brought dead while seven injured people have been hospitalized. He said that a case has been registered and further investigation taken up with regard to the accident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Two persons were killed and another was feared dead after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a river in Doda district on Monday.

Official sources told GNS that the vehicle fell into Raggi Nallah and immediately after the accident, a massive rescue operation was launched by local volunteers and police.

Two bodies were fished out so far and one more person is feared dead in the accident, they added.

A police officer confirmed it to GNS and said that efforts are underway to trace the third person believed to be travelling in the vehicle. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Two persons were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into deep gorge in Doda district on Thursday.

Official sources said that a private vehicle (JK06A-1026) met with the accident near Malhori this late afternoon.

A police officer confirmed it to GNS and said that a case has been registered. He identified the deceased as Joginder Paul son of Lt Bodh Raj and Ranjeet Kumar son of Swami Raj, both residents of of Panthan Parnote PremNagar. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A woman lost her life while aa four others were injured in a road accident in Doda district of Jammu division. A police officer told news agency—Kashmir Scroll that an accident took place a Pull Doda when a celerio car bearing registration no. Jk 06 1453 met with accident at satwas road. In the incident at least five persons received injuries among them one identified as Payal Devi wife of Sandep Singh died before reaching to hospital. Four other injured were identified as Sandeep Singh, Santosha Devi w/o Vicky r/o jammu, Arundeep rakwal s/o rajinder singh r/o satwas and Prayanshi Devi d/o sandeep singh.
