SRINAGAR:  body found at Watnard village in Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag has been identified to be an individual from Banihal. 

An official in the knowhow of things told GNS that a body was sighted by some passersby lying in Watnard village in Kokernag.

"A police team reached the site and took the body into its possession for medico-legal formalities," the official said, adding, "After initial assessment the body has come out to be of one Muzaffar Ahmad Shaan, son of Abdul Gani, a resident of Nowgam Banihal. 

"Inquest proceedings into the matter have been initiated," the official added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A minor girl was killed and four other persons injured in Donipora Sangam area of  Bijbehara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday evening. 

Reports reaching to GNS said that an accident took place between a Thar bearing registration number JK05L-8889 and a truck bearing registration number JK22-9011 resulting in injuries to on board five persons. The injured persons  immediately evacuated to SDH Bijbehara for treatment where among them a minor declared dead by the doctors. The deceased has been identified as Adiba Jaan (5) daughter of Mohammad Aqib a resident of Razya Kadal srinagar and the injured persons identified as Aqib Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Shaban a resident of Raziya Kadal Srinagar, Aamir son of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat a resident of Baba Kadal Srinagar, Asmat Jaan wife of Aqib Ahmad a resident of Raziya Kadal and Afeen Jan daughter of Aqib Ahmad a resident of Raziya Kadal. 

Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard for further investigation. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Anantnag district on Monday warned Private Schools coaching centers in south Kashmir district for being involved in tuitions despite winter break.

“It has come to the notice of undersigned that some Private Schools are involved in tuitions despite winter break and are forcing the students to report such centers. Similarly, some coaching centers are also functioning without proper approval and registration,” reads a circular issued by Chief Education Officer Anantnag.

“Before action as warranted under rules is initiated against them, the management of these schools and tuition centers are put on strict instructions to desist from this activity henceforth,” the circular, a copy of which lies with GNS reads, adding, “Moreover, Zonal level monitoring committees already constituted for the purpose of monitoring are also put under strict instructions to maintain strict vigil over the violators for the said directions and prompt reporting to this office thereof.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth around Rs 290 crore in Jammu Kashmir’s Anantnag.

“This is yet another milestone in district Anantnag's path to economic and social progress. A slew of projects dedicated to the people today in the Health, Education, Water Supply, and Urban Development sectors will empower all sections of the society,” the Lt Governor said.

He said our focus on health and education will prepare the people for future challenges and revitalize the growth story of the district.

The Lt Governor said the foundation stone laid for projects in Rural Development, PW (R&B), Jal Shakti, Fisheries and Tourism sectors will bring visible impact on the quality of lives of the people.

“The prime goal of the administration is rapid economic growth integrated with speedier social development. With collective efforts to synergize strengths of different sectors, improving standards of living and seizing the vast opportunities in the industrial sector, J&K is today at the forefront of development transformation in the country,” the Lt Governor said.

The 37 projects worth Rs 124.17 crore inaugurated by Lt Governor include 29 projects of Jal Shakti; Beautification of main market Pahalgam; Multi-storied building in Boys Degree College Khanabal and Academic Block & additional class room at Degree College Bijbehara; office complex at Town hall premises, MC Qazigund; Block office building at Ruhoo & Footbridge at Kanganhall; NTPHC Kehribal under Languishing Project and upgradation of roads in the district.

The 39 projects at a cost of Rs 166.56 crore for which foundation stones were laid by Lt Governor include 20 projects of Rural Development Department; 9 projects of PWD (R&B); 4 projects of Fisheries; development of recreation spot on River Bank at Pahalgam; Nagar Van (City Forest), Munjhadan, Mahind and Water Supply Schemes at Siligam Tantraypora, Imoo Sundoo, Brad Ikhrajpora & Shumhall Hassanoor. SRINAGAR: An Ayurvedic doctor was killed and seven other persons were injured, two of them critically, in a road mishap in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said. 

They told GNS that a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK03B 1989, while on way from Deesu to Vailoo, skidded off the road and fell down a bridge.

The accident left one person dead and seven others injured, they said. 

The officials identified the deceased as one Mushtaq Ahmad Shapoo a resident of Zalangam Kokernag, an Ayurvedic doctor.

The injured persons, they said were soon after evacuated to a nearby hospital, where condition of two is said to be critical.

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that they are on site to collect the necessary details. (GNS)
