SRINAGAR: An alleged gangster was killed while a police official sustained injuries in a shootout at Government Medical College Kathua last night. 

As learnt by GNS, police and a group of alleged gangsters exchanged fire at about 10:35 PM last night at Government Medical College premises in Kathua, resulting in the killing of a 'gangster' and injury of a PSI Deepak Sharma. 

The injured PSI was admitted in a nearby hospital for treatment, whose current condition couldn't be however ascertained. 

The circumstances leading to the incident however remain shrouded in mystery as no significant information could be made available regarding the face-off between the police and alleged gangsters. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Three women, two children, and twelve others were injured in a stray dog attack in north Kashmir’s Baramulla villages on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning when a stray dog bit seventeen people and several animals within a few hours in Heewan, Fathegarh, and Sheeri villages of Narvaw Baramulla.

The injured individuals were taken to PHC Sheeri, where doctors provided first aid and administered anti-rabies vaccines. Three critically injured individuals were then referred to GMC Baramulla.

Dr Azhar Majeed, Medical Officer at PHC Sheeri, said that all injured individuals received first aid, with three critically injured individuals being referred to GMC Baramulla for further treatment.

Just five days prior, a pack of stray dogs had attacked at least twelve individuals in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. (KS)

SRINAGAR: At least a dozen persons were injured in stray dogs attack in and around Kupwara town.

Reports reaching GNS said that a pack of stray dogs struck, running amok in Malik Mohalla Kupwara and a few of its adjacent areas. In the attack by the canines, at least two persons suffered injuries of varied nature, who all were taken from the site to nearby health facility.

A medical official at SDH Kupwara told GNS that they have received twelve persons at the health facility who have suffered injuries of different sorts. 

Identifying the injured persons as Wali Mohammad (40), Mohammad Jamal (55), Suhaib (6), Lovely Singh (25), Javid Ahmad (16), Saqlain (28), Ghulam Mohammad (70), Hafeeza Begum (55), Sumaiya (27), Abdul Ahad Hajam (60), Ghulam Mohiuddin (65) and Mohammad Shafi (58). 

"All are being treated upon and largely remain out of danger," the official said further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A court in Srinagar on Wednesday sentenced a man to imprisonment for life for throwing acid on a woman at Hawal here on 1 February 2022.

The court of Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar Jawad Ahmed announced the sentence against the main convict, Sajid Altaf Sheikh of Buchwara Dalgate in a jam packed court. The court also imposed Rs 40 lakh fine on Sheikh.

The crime had sent shock waves on the evening of February 1, 2022 when the main accused accompanied by the juvenile (name withheld) threw acid on the 24-year-old woman after she allegedly rejected his marriage proposal.

Soon after the attack, police had constituted a special investigation team headed by SP North Raja Zuhaib (JKPS) with Yasir Parrey (SDPO) Khanyar, SHOs of police stations Safakadal, Nowhatta besides SHO of Srinagar Women’s Police station as its members to investigate the case (FIR No 08/2022) under section 326-A and 120-B IPC). (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Man who was critically wounded yesterday in militant attack at Shalkadal area of Srinagar succumbed to his injuries this morning at the hospital

A top police officer confirmed to GNS that the person who was critically wounded in a militant attack yesterday has succumbed to his injuries this morning at the hospital.

It's pertinent to mention that yesterday, militants shot at two people in Shalkaldal in which one was dead on the spot, while another was immediately shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.

They have been identified as Amritpal and Rohit Mashi of Punjab.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: At least five persons were hospitalized after being attacked and injured by stray dogs in main Chowk Handwara on Sunday afternoon. 

Reports reaching GNS said that a pack of stray dogs attacked the market going people, leaving five of them with injuries. 

The injured persons were taken to District Hospital Handwara for treatment.

Confirming it, a medical official at DH Handwara told GNS that the persons are undergoing treatment at the hospital and luckily all are out of danger. 

The medical official identified the injured persons as Habibullah, son of Abdul Aziz of Jaggerpora, Zahoor Ahmad son of Ali Mohammad of Handwara, Yasir Ahmad son of Mohammad Shafi of Handwara, Ghulam Mohammad, son of Abdul Rashid of Sagipora and Mushtaq Ahmad, son of Abdul Rashid of Chotipora. SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday attached properties of two key Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives for their involvement in 2015 terror attack on a Border Security Forces convoy in Udhampur.

As learnt by GNS, sleuths of the investigation agency attached the properties of two accused who are currently undergoing trial in the NIA Special Court, Jammu.

The attachment was made on the directions of a competent Court. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: In the remote village of Guloora in Langate, residents have been living in fear for many days as wild animals, including bears and leopards, have been roaming in the locality and after hectic efforts the bear was trapped successfully by Wildlife officials and Handwara police.The recent incident involved a wild bear entering a resident's godown during the night, resulting in the loss of over 35,000 rupees worth of livestock.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the neighboring communities as these wild animals frequently venture down from the nearby forests of the Mawar belt.The local residents have been so fearful that they avoid leaving their homes after dusk. Even the local mosque's muezzin was reluctant to call the Azaan due to the threat of wild animals. They have appealed the Wildlife Department to sanitize the area to avoid repeat such attacks in the localities. 

"Wild animals on prowl have become a serious danger to both humans and livestock in the area, and the locals are pleading government to prioritize their safety".

In this tense situation, the local police authorities, including SHO Handwara Shabir Ahmad and DO police post Langate Saqib Mushtaq acted swiftly to save a wild bear from a potentially dangerous encounter with the local residents.

While the Wildlife Department arrived later, everyone involved worked diligently to address the issue and ensure the safety of the people in the area.

SRINAGAR: Army on Thursday said that its officer was injured in a “likely grenade” accident in Rajouri district.  

“One officer was  injured in a likely grenade accident at a post in Rajouri sector. Officer evacuated and stable post initial treatment.  Further investigation of the incident in progress,” army wrote on X. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Aman was injured after being attacked by a bear at his home in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that soon after the incident he was shifted to SDH Kokernag for treatment.

He said identified him as Mamood Kakas son of Mohammad Ismail Kalas resident of Lisser Shalnard Kokernag. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A man was injured after being attacked by a bear in Pachgam nard area of South Kashmir Kulgam district on Wednesday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that bear attacked and Injured man in Pachgam Nard Kund in Kulgam and soon after the incident he was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad from Pachgam Nard Kund. Locals have sought attention of wildlife department in this regard.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A 40-year-old man was attacked and injured by a black bear in Drangsoo village in Mawer area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district this afternoon. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that one Mushtaq Ahmad bhat son of Ab khaliq bhat was attacked by a bear at his native village.

The injured man was evacuated to NTPHC Qalamabad for treatment where from doctors refer him to GMC handwara for further treatment,he said Soon after the incident Police rushed to the spot and wildlife shooters also summoned to assess the situation.

Meanwhile, a Wildlife official told Kashmir Scroll that an operation is being launched by the department to tranquilize the roaming beast to avoid any untoward incident.

Locals have sought attention of wildlife department in this regard.(KS)
