SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from two Kupwara residents in central Kashmir's Srinagar district.

A top police officer told GNS that arms and ammunition,
including eight grenades and two pistols, were recovered from two Kupwara residents during a checking at Bemina bypass. 

A case has been registered in this regard at the nearest police station for further investigations, the officer added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police and army on Thursday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control by killing five militants in a gunfight in Kupwara district.

“Based on an intelligence input generated by Kupwara Police, an infiltration bid was successfully foiled in a joint operation launched by Police & Army along the Line of Control in Machil Sector of Kupwara district,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS. In this “swift and coordinated operation”, he said, five militants were neutralized.

“After receiving the intelligence input, the joint party of Kupwara police and Army (56RR) swiftly launched anti-terrorist operation during the intervening night of 25-26th October at Sardari Nar area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector,” he said, adding, “Besides, multiple ambushes were laid by the joint teams along the LoC.”

On Thursday, he said, the joint team observed movement of militants in the thick dense forests of the area “who taking advantage of difficult terrain infiltrated to our side”. 

Employing “meticulous” tactics, he said, the militants were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the killing of five unidentified militants linked with LeT, he said.  

The identification of the killed militants is being ascertained, he said. “Huge cache of arms and ammunition including five (05) AK rifles & other incriminating materials have been recovered from the site of encounter.”   

All the recovered materials, he said, have been taken into case records for further investigation. 

In this regard, he said, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. “Extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.”

Meanwhile ADGP Kashmir appreciated the role Kupwara Police for generating the actionable input and the role of joint forces for swiftly tracking and neutralizing the infiltrating militants to “defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements who are hellbent to disrupt peace and harmony in the valley.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: An army man was injured in a sniper attack by Pakistani troops along the line of control (LoC) in the Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district. Official sources told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that the Pakistani army fired a sniper shot at an Indian army post in the Keran sector on Friday evening.

The sniper shot left a soldier, Sourav Kumar, wounded in his left chest. Sources said that the injured soldier was airlifted to the army’s 92-base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.

Sources further said that the condition of the soldier is out of danger and stable. (KS) 

SRINAGAR: A man was killed and his son left injured after their newly purchased tractor turned turtle while the duo was on way to their home Dhani Karnah in Kupwara district on Monday evening, official sources said. 

They told GNS said that a Chassis tractor met with an accident at Zarla area in Karnah resulting in on spot death of a person and injuries to another. 

"As the news spread, the locals reached the site and lifted the persons to a nearby health facility, where one Mohammad Ashraf Malik was declared as brought dead on arrival", they said adding the other person identified as Uzair Ashraf is being treated upon at the health facility. 

"It has come to fore that the persons atop the tractor is actually a father-son duo which was on way to their home in Dhani Karnah after purchasing the tractor from Srinagar", they said. 

Confirming the death of one and injuries to another, a police official told GNS that they are ascertaining the details regarding the incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A minor boy died after being allegedly hit by a tractor in Karnah area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district this morning.

Reports reaching GNS said a minor boy was fatally hit by a tractor bearing registration number JK09C 0019.

The boy identified as one Nooran Shah (around 11 years of age), son of Khadam Hussain, a resident of Chamkote Karnah, died on the spot. 

A police official confirming the incident told GNS that a team is on the spot to collect the necessary details. (GNS)
