SRINAGAR: Two persons were apprehended with a whopping ninty kilograms of poppy-straw in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, an official said on Tuesday.

The official told GNS that on receipt of reliable inputs, police laid a naka during which it intercepted a duo in possession of ninty kilograms of poppy-straw. 

Identifying the duo as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jabbar Bhat and Ubaid Gulzar Lone, son of Gulzar Ahmad Lone, both residents of Takiyabal Bijbehara, the official further said that a case vide FIR number 8/24 under section 8/15 NDPS has been registered in Police Station Pahalgam for further proceedings. SRINAGAR: A youth lost his life while two others were injured in a road accident in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An official said that that outh died on spot two others were injured after an Alto car skipped off the road in Yanner Pahalgam.

He said that vehicle skidded off the road near Ganeshpora bridge resulting in on spot death of Mudasir Ahmad Malik son of Ab Aziz Malik resident of Batkoot.

Two injured were identified as Tariq Ahmad Malik and Mudasir Ahmad Rather both residents of Batkoot. Meanwhile police have taken cognizance and started investigation. (KS)

SRINAGAR:  Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded sub-zero nights even as minimum temperature remained above normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

A meteorological temperature department official told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 4.8°C against 4.5°C on the previous night and it was 5.7°C above normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 3.4°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, he said. The minimum temperature was 4.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 0.4°C against 0.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 2.2°C against 2.0°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal for the place by 2.8°C, the official said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 2.3°C against 2.6°C on the previous night and it was 3.7°C above normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg, the official said, recorded a low of minus 3.3°C against minus 1.8°C on the previous night and the latest temperature was 0.3°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 11.2°C, against 10.7°C on previous night, and it was above normal by 1.4°C for the winter capital of J&K, he said.

From December 2-7, he said, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy.

From December 8-10, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected. "Fall in Minimum temperature by 3-5°C is expected from 2nd December onwards." (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A hotel was damaged in a fire mishap in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district Monday afternoon.

An official told news agency,Kashmir Scroll that a fire broke out in a hotel in Pahalgam following which fire tenders and locals rushed to the spot.

He said that in the incident hotel Mansion has suffered damage while efforts are on to douse off the flames. Cause of fire is being ascertained while further investigation has been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A tourist died after he came under a pine tree while riding a horse in  Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district this afternoon, officials said.

They said that a tourist identified as Janartham (67) son of Govintha Rajalu, a resident of Tamil Nadu was riding a horse when he came under a falling pine tree near Baisaran, resulting in his instant death. 

The body of the deceased tourist was evacuated from the site and lies in a mortuary at PHC Pahalgam, they said. 

A police official has also confirmed to GNS about the death of the tourist in the particular incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: At least two persons were injured after being attacked by a leopard in Pahalgam area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening, officials said.

Identifying the injured duo as Abdul Razzaq Chopan (30), son of Khazir Mohammad Chopan and Abdul Aziz Chopan (35) son of Khazir Mohammad Chopan, the officials said the duo was attacked near forest area at Ganeshpura Baisaran in Pahalgam.

“The injured duo was evacuated from the site to GMC Anantnag, where both of them are said to be stable as of now”, the officials said further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A motorcyclist was killed and two of his pillion-riders injured after a two-wheeler they were plying on collided with a tipper Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. 

Reports reaching GNS said that an accident took place between Tipper bearing registration number JK 13C 0290 and motorcycle bearing number JK03K –1852 at Lidroo Pahalgam, resulting in critical injuries to the motorcyclist Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and two pillion riders namely Abdul Ahad Mir son of Ali Mohd Bhat and Rouf Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Rasool Bhat – all residents of Krashangam Aishmuqam. 

The injured trio was evacuated from the site to PHC Pahalgam, where the motorcyclist Manzoor Ahmad Bhat succumbed to his injuries. 

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that they have taken cognizance into the incident for further investigations. (GNS)
