SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police alongside security forces arrested four associates linked with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit here on Saturday evening. 

“Acting on a specific information, a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) comprising of Srinagar Police, 50 RR, Valley QRT and 29Bn CRPF was established in Kenihama area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowgam in the evening hours, today,” reads a statement issued to GNS.

“During checking, a white Alto vehicle was intercepted by the joint party. Four militant associates identified as Md Yaseen Bhat son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Sheraz Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Rashid Rather, Gulam Hassan Khandey son of Gulam Mohd khandey, all from Lcchnambal Zafran Colony Panthachowk and Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Late Abdul Ganie Bhat resident of Frestabal Pampore who were boarding the vehicle were apprehended.”

“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK 56 rifle with 3 Magazines, 75 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm, 01 Glock Pistol with 2 Magazines, 26 Rounds of 9 mm and 06 Chinese grenades were recovered from their possession. During preliminary investigation, it was found that the apprehended individuals were linked with the proscribed militant outfit JeM,” reads  the statement. 

“In this regard, a case FiR No.31/2024 under section 18, 23, 39 UAPA, 7/25 Arms Act and 120b of the IPC has been registered in Police Station Nowgam and further investigation is in progress,” the statement reads further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The staffers of Police Station New Delhi have arrested key conspirator of a terror module recently busted in Kupwara. 

“The staff of the PS-New Delhi Railway Station has arrested one of the key conspirators of the recently busted terror module in Kupwara by Jammu & Kashmir Police. The accused person has been identified as Riyaz Ahmed. On 04/02/2024, he was arrested by the staff of PS-New Delhi Railway Station.  He was involved in hatching conspiracy along with one Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather in receiving arms and ammunition from across the LOC by the terrorist handlers”, reads a statement issued to GNS. 

“On 04/02/2024, specific information was received from investigation agencies in Jammu & Kashmir that one Riyaz Ahmad Rather S/o Gh Rasool Rather R/o Village New Gabra Tehsil Karnah District Kupwara, J&K is wanted in the recent terror module case busted by them, wherein five persons were arrested and incriminating material including 5 AK rifles (short), 5 AK Magazines, 16 short AK rounds were recovered. In this regard, a Case FIR No: 07/2024 US 120B IPC, 7/25 Indian Arms Act, 13, 18, 20, 23, 38, 39 of UA (P) Act, Police Station-Karnah, Kupwara (J&K) was registered and under investigation”, reads the statement. 

“These arms and ammunition were sent by POK based LeT Terrorist handlers namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh @ Shakoor S/o Wali Mohammad Seikh R/o Gabra Karnah and Qazi Mohammad Khushal S/o Qazi Syed Yaseen R/o Dhanni Karnah. Both were operating from across the border. Further, it was informed that the alleged Riyaz Ahmad is absconding and would shortly reach New Delhi Railway Station in the wee hours”, reads the statement. 

“Sensing the gravity of the matter, a team comprising of Insp. Vishwanath Paswan SHO/NDRS, SI Naseeb Singh, ASI Yadram, ASI Sushil, HC Jaiveer and HC Gaurav were constituted and immediately deployed at all the entry/exits and strategic points of New Delhi Railway Station. The alert staff acted promptly and identified the alleged Riyaz Ahmad in the crowd and apprehended him, when he was trying to flee from Exit Gate no 1, of New Delhi Railway Station in the early morning hours. The alleged was subjected to intensive interrogation, and it was revealed that he along with his friend Altaf had boarded Mahakaushal Express from Jabalpur and reached Hazarat Nizamuddin railway station at about 3:00 PM on 03.02.2024. From there they took an auto and reached NDRS. Riyaz Ahmad Rather was about to go to some other hideout.”

“Alleged Riyaz Ahmad is suspected of having received a consignment of arms and ammunition from Khursheed Ahmad Rather S/o Lt Mohd. Yousuf Rather R/o New Gabra Karnah Kupwara J&K and Ghulam Sarwar Rather S/o Mohd Yousuf Rather R/o New Gabra Karnah Kupwara both already arrested by J&K Police.  Accused Riyaz Ahmad and his friend Altaf have been retired from Indian Army on 31.01.2023”, the statement reads. 

“One mobile phone and one SIM card has been recovered from his possession. Accused Riyaz Ahmad has been arrested under appropriate sections of law and Police Officials of concerned Police Station of J&K have been informed for further necessary action at their end”, reads the statement adding further investigation is continued to unearth the whole conspiracy. SRINAGAR: A cross-border terror module involved in smuggling of arms and ammunition was busted and five terror-associates arrested in Karnah Kupwara, Police said on Saturday. 

"Acting on credible information from own sources and corroborated by other sister agencies and counterparts Kupwara Police along with 09 PARA Field Regiment has busted a terror module involved in smuggling of various arms and ammunition sent by two POK based LeT terrorist handlers namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh alias Shakoor son of Wali Mohammad Seikh resident of Gabra Karnah and Qazi Mohammad Khushal son of Qazi Syed Yaseen R/o Dhanni Karnah both at present operating from across the border, by arresting one Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Noor Hussain Bhat resident of Rear Sudhpora Karnah from whom so far various incriminating materials like AK Rifle: 01 No; AK Magazine: 1No; AK Rounds: 20 No; Pistol: 02 No and Pistol Magazine: 02 No", reads the statement issued to GNS.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that in the recent past the above two handlers from across were in touch with the said Zahoor who hails from a village which is in proximity with LoC with various means."

"The consignments so dispatched to this side from across were thereafter delivered to other terror associates who were in contact with Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and the said handlers as well", reads the statement. 

"Based on the further leads, four more terror associates namely Khursheed Ahmad Rather S/o Lt. Mohd Yousuf Rather R/o Gabra, Karnah; Mudassir Shafiq S/o Shafiq Ahmad R/o Gabra, Karnah; Ghulam Sarwar Rather S/o Mohd Yousuf Rather R/o Gabra Karnah and Qazi Fazal Illahi S/o Qazi Mohammad Anwar have also been arrested, arms and ammunition and other incriminating material recovered from them including: AK Rifle (Short) = 05 No, AK Magazines = 05 No, Short AK Rounds = 16 Nos", reads the statement. 

"The case is being investigated expeditiously in a comprehensive manner to further unearth the conspiracy regarding the smuggling of arms and ammunition and proscribed material/contraband", reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said to have busted an over-the-ground-worker module in Beerwah of central Kashmir's Budgam district. 

"The Budgam Police has dismantled a module comprising seven individuals from the Beerwah area. These individuals were involved in the dissemination of anti-national terrorist propaganda by affixing posters in and around the Beerwah area", said a police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS. 

The arrested persons, as per the statement, have been identified as  Romain Rasool Sheikh Irfan Nazir Sheikh, Rizwan Nazir Sheikh, Sahil Javid Sheikh all resident of Bonet Beerwah, Jahangir Bashir Mir, Tariq Ashraf Sheikh, both residents of Utligam Beerwah and Shakir Lateef Pathan, resident of Gandhipora, Beerwah.

"The module was led by Romain Rasool Sheikh and Irfan Nazir Sheikh, who during investigation were found manipulated by a LeT’s Pakistani handler", the statement reads. 

"It further emerged that the duo, acting as local motivators, instructed the other five individuals to carry out the assigned tasks", reads the statement adding incriminating evidence has been recovered from the apprehended persons. 

"Investigation in the case is in progress", the statement read. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: LeT/TRF module was busted and two militant associates arrested with arms in Handwara on Wednesday, officials said. 

"Handwara Police alongwith teams of Army and CRPF busted a militant module of LeT/TRF and recovered arms from Tutigund forest on disclosure of militant associates Parvaiz Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Rustum Dar and Showkat Ahmad Shergujri son of Ghulam Mohammad Shergujri, both residents of Tutigund Handwara", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"A case vide FIR number 264/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations taken up", the statement reads adding more arrests and recoveries are expected in the case. (GNS)

According to police 2 IEDs, 2 handgrenades, 1 pistol with 2 magazines, 24 cartridges, 1 timer switch, 8 detonators, and batteries were recovered from them.

He said the terror module was handled by Firdaus Ahmed Bhat, an active member of the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

The police also said it is a major blow to terror module attempting to disturb peace in Punjab. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Security forces busted a terror module when they successfully arrested a "Hybrid terrorist" in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said on Saturday.

Police, along with 26 Assam Rifles and 3rd BN CRPF, busted a terror module in North Kashmir’s Bandipora and successfully foiled the nefarious designs of Pak-based terror handlers in reviving the terrorists in the district.

Police said on August 25, based on specific input generated by J&K police about the movement of a hybrid terrorist, a checkpoint was established by the joint party in the Dardgund area, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Pethkoot.

"At the checkpoint, a suspicious person, on noticing the joint party, tried to flee, but he was apprehended tactfully. On search, 1 pistol, 1 pistol magazine, 8 rounds, & other incriminating material were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Shafayat Zubair Rishi of Nesbal Sumbal", police said.

"During questioning, the accused disclosed that he was on his way to collect a cache of arms and ammunition from a lady identified as Munira Begum, wife of killed terrorist & area commander Yousuf Choupan in Pazalpora area", police added.

"Pertinently, the accused was in touch with Pakistan-based terror handler Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, who exfiltrated to Pakistan in 1999 and was working on the revival of terrorists in the district. He was also involved in the 2000 Kothibagh IED blast, in which 14 people, including 12 police personnel, were killed and had remained associated with the proscribed terror outfit HM and later on with the terror outfit Al-Badr. Shafayat Zubair Rishi was also involved in burning an Army vehicle in Sumbal in 2009 and is out on bail in the said case", police said.

"Furthermore, on the disclosure of Munira Begum, a cache of arms and ammunition, including 1 Krinkov AK-47 rifle, 3 magazines, 90 rounds, and 1 pen pistol that was to be delivered to Shafait Reshi, was recovered from the nearby forest area", they said, adding that "during questioning, it was also figured that Munira has also gone to Pakistan twice".

"Moreover, Shafayat Rishi also admitted that he was about to receive 47 lakhs for the revival of terrorists. Later, this money was to be handed over to someone as per the requirements and directions of his across handler, Mushtaq Ah Mir", they said.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered, and further investigation is under process. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Security forces busted a militant module by arresting four militant associates and conspirators who were behind a grenade incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district last year, that had left 13 civilians wounded, police said.

On May 5, 2022, a grenade was hurled on a police party at main chowk Yaripora. However the grenade missed the intended target and exploded in the crowd nearby in which 13 persons got injured.

During the course of investigation police, along with Army’s 1Rashtriya Rifles arrested four militant associates and conspirators in the case, police said.
Police identified the four as Nasir Nabi Dar, Aaqib Majid Ganie, Mohammad Abass Dar and Zahid Ali Bhat all from Kulgam district.

Police recovered some incriminating material including one Pistol, two pistol magazines, one hand grenade and 14 rounds from their possession.

A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Yaripora and investigation was set into motion, police added. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday arrested a PhD scholar for allegedly motivating youth to join militant ranks and also claimed the arrest of two Over Ground Workers of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and JeM on his disclosure in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

A top police officer told GNS that Kulgam police generated input and was in search of a person with code name “Dr. Sabeel who was motivating, funding  and providing logistic support” to the youth of District Kulgam and adjoining areas to join militant ranks.

“Special police teams were  constituted to search for this suspect and then to take a legal action,” he said. After systemic efforts, he said, one vehicle (JK18B-4852) was zeroed in. 

“The credentials  of the vehicle was sought and it came to fore that this vehicle was being used  by one Dr. Rubani Bashir son of late  Bashir  Ahmed Dar of Ashmuji Kulgam,” he said, adding, “Accordingly police naka was established at Ashmuji and Dr Rubani was arrested.” When he was put to sustained questioning, the police officer said, Dr Rubani disclosed his code name as Dr Sabeel.

Dr. Rubani is a PHD scholar from Central University of Kashmir and has also applied for job as assistant professor there, he said.

“During questioning Dr Rubani Bashir disclosed that he has been associated with Jamat-e-Islami from his student days and he has been its member in student wing ( IJT) Islamic Jamat ul Tulbha for 14 years and later on has been a full-fledged member  of JEI, he said, adding, “The basic modus operandi of Dr Sabeel was to work for (militant) organization  of HM/JeM  behind the curtain. He used to identify the youngsters, motivated them, funded them and then made them ready to join  (militant) organizations.”

During preliminary investigation, he said, it came to fore that Dr Subeel  motivated  two youngsters  and had made them join the militant ranks. “On the disclosure of Dr Rubani Bashir two OGWs of HM /JeM were arrested.”

Among those arrested include a 17-year-old of Ashmuji  Bhan  who works as labour and another a 22-year-old Tariq Ahmed Naikoo alias Chawla of Check  Wattoo  Aharabal who also works as labour, the officer said.

On disclosures by Dr. Rubbani, he said,  one Pistol (Chinese )  along with Magaz and  nine 9mm live rounds  were recovered.

Similarly, he said,  on the disclosure of  two other accused, one AK 47 magazine and 29 live rounds besides one grenade (Chinese) were recovered.  

“In this connection FIR No 143/2023 u/s 13,18,18-B,39/UA(P) Act, stands registered in  Police Station Kulgam,” he added. (GNS)
