SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government has extended the ban on Yasin Malik’s outfit by declaring the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front’ as an “unlawful association” for a five-year duration with immediate effect under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“The Modi government has declared the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Mohd. Yasin Malik faction)’ as an ‘Unlawful Association’ for a further period of five years,” Amit Shah wrote on X.

In 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had banned Yasin Malik’s outfit under the anti-terror legislation, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA). Prior to this action, the government had also banned Jamat-e-Islami (JeI-J&K) under Section 3(1) of the UAPA.

The JKLF was similarly banned under the provisions of the UAPA, empowering the Centre to declare any association as unlawful by officially notifying it in the Official Gazette.

SRINAGAR: Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday announced the extension on ban on Jamaat-e-Islami by another five years. 

Taking to microblogging site ‘X’, Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, as per GNS, “Pursuing PM @narendramodi Ji's policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and separatism the government has extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu Kashmir for five years.”

 “The organisation is found continuing its activities against the security, integrity and sovereignty of the nation. The outfit was first declared an 'Unlawful Association' on 28 February 2019. Anyone threatening the security of the nation will face ruthless measures (sic.),” reads the post. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: In a bid to avoid any confusion during the anticipated VVIP visit to the district, the Jammu administration on Monday clamped a blanket ban on the sale and use of firecrackers till Tuesday evening. 

"Whereas, it has been made to appear to me by the inputs received from Police authorities and also otherwise that use of firecrackers may create confusion among the security forces and public while at the same time causing serious breach of peace and order and disturbance of public tranquility during the upcoming VVIP visit in District Jammu", reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS. 

"Whereas it is desirable that any breach of peace and order and disturbance of public tranquility which might cause danger to human lives and properties should be immediately prevented", remarks the order adding "Whereas for the aforementioned reasons, the undersigned (DM Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishya), is of the opinion that there is sufficient ground to proceed under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973."

"Now therefore, I Sachin Kumar Vaishya, IAS, District Magistrate, Jammu by exercise of powers vested upon me under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 hereby prohibit the sale/purchase and use firecrackers in District Jammu", reads the order. 

"The order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain operative till 5pm on 20th February, 2024. Any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860."

"In view of the emergent nature of the order, it is being issued ex-parte and is addressed to public in general", reads the order. 

Pertinent to mention here that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu on February 20. The PM Modi will inaugurate various projects, including AIIMS, Jammu, world's highest railway bridge over Chenab, and north India's first river rejuvenation project — Devika river project — in Udhampur. SRINAGAR: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday imposed ban on a cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir for submitting multiple birth certificates.

The handout issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said that Vanshaj Sharma, resident of Bishnah, Jammu has been banned by the BCCI for submitting multiple birth certificates with different date of birth.

For this act, he has been banned from participating in all BCCI tournaments for a period of two years from October 27.

The handout further stated that after completion of two years ban, the player can only participate in Senior Men's Tournament conducted by the BCCl and will not be allowed to play in any age group tournaments of the BCCI.

JKCA has been informing from time to time that the players should not resolve to such acts as the punishment given by the BCCl adversely affects the career of the player.
In the instant case, Vanshaj Sharma migrated to another state and applied from there as member of U-23 Men's team of Bihar, it further read.

However, it said that since he was first registered by the JKCA in 2021-22, his data was available with the BCCI and despite him having changed the Association; he was caught for submitting multiple birth certificates.

As a consequence of which he has been banned from participating in any tournament for two years and from participating in age group tournaments for the entire life.

SRINAGAR: Medical Superintendent Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has strictly directed all the government hospitals to prescribe only 'Generic' medicine and not in any case the 'branded' medicines.

"It has been conveyed by Director General Health Services, Government of India and endorsed by Director SKIMS & Ex. Officio Secretary to Government, that all the medications prescribed in Government Hospitals should be Generic Medicines only and not in any case branded medicines", reads a circular by Medical Superintendent Prof. Farooq Ahmad Jan, a copy of which lies with GNS. 

"In this regard it is also reiterated that visits of Medical Representatives to Government Hospitals' premises are completely curtailed", reads the circular.

SRINAGAR: In response to rising concerns over reckless driving and stunt biking by underage students, the Education department has taken decisive action by issuing a ban on the use of motorbikes and scooties by students below the age of 18. The move comes after several reports of injuries, minor accidents and even loss of lives caused over the period of time. 
 
The Office of the Joint Director (Central & North) School Education, according to GNS, has instructed all Chief Education Officers in Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal (Central), Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora (North) to sensitize school administrators, both in government and private schools, about the ban. 

The Head of Institutions has been directed not to allow any student below the age of 18 to use motorbikes or scooties during school hours.
 
Furthermore, the students who do use these vehicles must wear helmets and possess valid driving licenses issued by the competent authority.
 
 To ensure compliance, Zonal Education Officers have been directed to conduct surprise checks within and around educational institutions to discourage the continuation of this dangerous trend.
 
Moreover, the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, along with SSP Traffic City and SSP Traffic Rural, has also been urged to intensify surprise checks on bike and scooty riders. 
 
They have been urged to intercept any underage students found without helmets or lacking valid driving licenses, in an effort to curb this growing menace and enforce the rule of law.
 
These measures have been put in place to prioritize the safety and security of all students, promoting discipline, morality, and decency within and around schools. (GNS)
