SRINAGAR: The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in the Ramban road accident.

In a handout to GNS, In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said: “I am deeply shocked to learn of the unfortunate road accident in Ramban today, in which precious lives have been lost. I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. 

I have issued instructions to the District Administration and Divisional Commissioner to render all assistance, as provided in rule, to the kin of victims”. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: At least ten people, most of them said to be non-locals, were killed when a Taxi (Tavera) carrying passengers on way to Kashmir from Jammu rolled down about 300 meters deep gorge near Battery Chashma along Jammu-Srinagar highway midnight, officials said.

Identity of the deceased is still being ascertained even as identity proof recovered from the spot include that of a 47-year-old driver from Jammu and a non-local, apparently migrant labourer from Bihar.    

A senior police officer told GNS that information was received at around 1.15 a.m. midnight that a Tavera vehicle, carrying passengers towards Kashmir from Jammu, fell into a gorge and rolled down about 300 meters near Battery Chashma on the highway.

Immediately, he said, senior officers besides a police party headed by SHO police station Ramban, SDRF team and civil QRT Ramban rushed to the spot and started a massive rescue operation amid heavy rains.

“So far 10 bodies have been found in the deep gorge and are being shifted through tough terrain amid continuous rainfall”. He said that apparently most of the deceased are migrant labourers.

Two identity proofs have been recovered from the site so far and include that of Balwan Singh  son of Purab Singh of Amb Ghrotha Jammu who is said to be the driver of the vehicle, the officer said.   

Another identity card is that of Vipin Mukhiya son of Vishwa Nath Mukhiya of Inarbrwa ,Bhairagang west Champarn Bihar, the officer said.

SRINAGAR: Atleast 11 people including a 5-year-old girl were injured when a matador vehicle they were traveling in met with an accident in Poonch district on Thursday, officials said.

They said that the matadoor  (JK12-1063) skidded off the road near Mangna, resulting in injuries to 11 people who were shifted to hospital.

 They have been identified as Mohd Aslam S/o Hakam Din, Harjit Singh, Abdul Majid S/o Mohd Din,Narinder Kumar  S/o Kashi Ram, Nazir Hussain, Nusrat Naiz, 5, Rakhia Begam, Ruksana Kouser, Rashid Ahmad,  Neram Kumar S/o Heam Raj and Deepanshu  Kumar  S/o Narinder Kumar, all residents Mangnar.

 Confirming it,  a police official told GNS that the injured have been shifted to District Hospital Poonch. He said a case has been registered and further investigations taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Four members of a family including a couple and their minor kids died after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Kishtwar district on Thursday.

Officials told GNS that a swift car ( JK17-2460) on way from Kishtwar toward Bhandarkote met an accident near Bhandarkote,  resulting in the on spot death of three people identified as Yasir Ahmed Butt (37) Son of Abdul Gani Butt, his wife Shazada Begum (36), their child Artash Yasir (8). One more of their kid, Ailaf Yasir (5), scummed to injuries in hospital while another child Aarish Yasir (3) has been injured and under treatment  District Hospital Kishtwar.

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that a case has been registered in this regard. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: An elderly man was killed after being hit by a security forces’ vehicle in Gulshan Chowk area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said. 

An official told the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the man was hit by the vehicle today morning near Gulshan Chowk, resulting in his on spot death. 

He said that the body was shifted to district hospital Bandipora for medico-legal formalities.

The victim has been identified as Habibullah Shergojri son of Rajab Gojri of Bandipora’s Quil Muqam village. (KNO)

SRINAGAR:  Four persons were killed and three others sustained injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off a road in Ramban district on Monday morning.

Reports reaching GNS said that a sumo vehicle on way from Maligam to Ukhrall skidded off the road near Maligam due to slippery conditions, resulting in on spot death of four persons and injuries to three others.

A rescue operation was instantly launched by police with the help of locals, during which the bodies were recovered and the injured persons evacuated to PHC Ukhral for immediate treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Wahid Bali, Anaytullah, Mohammad Ayoub Bali, and driver Sajjad Ahmad—all residents of Pogal.

Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that a case has been registered in this regard for further investigations. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A 27-year-old soldier was injured in “accidental” fire along the Line of Control in Poonch district, officials said on Thursday. 

An official told GNS that the soldier suffered injury in left foot as his rifle went off accidentally in Krishna Ghati Sector in the district. He was immediately shifted to hospital and is under treatment, the official added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Two persons were killed and as many others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Reasi district on Tuesday.

A police official told GNS that a van (JK20A- 8411) was travelling from Reasi to Thub when it skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Thub village.

The accident, they said, took place at around 1800 hours and two persons namely Rashpal Singh son of Munshi Ram and Ganesh Singh son of Baldev Singh, both residents of Thub died on the spot and two others persons namely Raj Singh son Baldev Singh and Sanjay son of Munshi Ram were injured who were shifted to District Hospital Reasi for treatment in this regards. 

A senior police officer confirmed to GNS the death of two persons and injuries to as many others. He said that a case has been registered and further investigation taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) successfully rescued two persons after they were stuck inside a tipper, hit by an accident in Nowshera area in Srinagar. 

As learnt by GNS, two persons Lateef Ahmad Bhat and Arif Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Budgam, were stuck inside a tipper bearing registration number JK04 7173 after the vehicle turned turtle on the road near Nowshera marriage hall. 

Upon receiving the information, Fire and Emergency Services Nowshera employees swung into action and launched an advanced rescue operation and saved the lives of both the persons. 

Both the persons are said to be doing well and are with their respective families now.

Meanwhile, the families of the duo besides the locals have appreciated the role of F&ES for the prompt action to save the two precious lives. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A minor girl was killed and four other persons injured in Donipora Sangam area of  Bijbehara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday evening. 

Reports reaching to GNS said that an accident took place between a Thar bearing registration number JK05L-8889 and a truck bearing registration number JK22-9011 resulting in injuries to on board five persons. The injured persons  immediately evacuated to SDH Bijbehara for treatment where among them a minor declared dead by the doctors. The deceased has been identified as Adiba Jaan (5) daughter of Mohammad Aqib a resident of Razya Kadal srinagar and the injured persons identified as Aqib Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Shaban a resident of Raziya Kadal Srinagar, Aamir son of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat a resident of Baba Kadal Srinagar, Asmat Jaan wife of Aqib Ahmad a resident of Raziya Kadal and Afeen Jan daughter of Aqib Ahmad a resident of Raziya Kadal. 

Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard for further investigation. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Several passengers are feared to have died after a vehicle they were travelling in met with a fatal accident in Boniyar area in Baramulla district. 

An official told GNS that a passenger vehicle on the way to Uri rolled down into a gorge at Bujhthala, resulting in several casualties and injuries to several others. 

“Soon after the accident, a rescue operation was launched at the site”, the official said, adding the bodies have been recovered and the injured persons shifted to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. 

The rescue operation was going on the site – when this report was being filed.

SRINAGAR: At least nine passengers were hospitalized with injuries after a vehicle they were on board fell from a cliff at Manjakote area in Rajouri, officials said on Saturday evening.

They told GNS that a Matador vehicle bearing registration number JK11 5057, fell from a cliff at Guglinar, Kakora in Manjakote. 

In the incident, they said, nine on board passengers identified as Gul Hussain (70) son of Feroz Di, Mohammad Waseem (26) son of Mohammad Razzaq, Khadim Hussain (65) son of Abdul Khan, Rukhsana Kouser (25) wife of Mohammad Younis, Zaifan (5) son of Mohammad Younis, Mohammad Shabir (28) son of Gul Hussain, Abid Hussain (11) son of Mohammad Naseer, Sobia Kauser (20) daughter of Mushtaq Hussain - all residents of Guglinar Kakora and Kulzam Begum wife of Mohammad Rafiq of Tandwal, sustained injuries.

"All the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital", the official added.

Meanwhile a police official has also confirmed to GNS about the incident. "Cognisance has been taken for investigations", the official added. (GNS)
