Headlines Today has initiated legal proceedings after a fake and fabricated news article surfaced on social media platforms, fraudulently using the newspaper’s name, logo, and design to circulate defamatory material.

According to the management, an unauthorized and forged version of the publication, carrying the Headlines Today masthead, was shared across various messaging apps. The fake edition included a fabricated byline, attributed to one “Sandeep Raina – Pulwama, 11 November 2025,” and carried false allegations against a Power Development Department (PDD) official, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Malla.

In an official statement, the Editor-in-Chief’s Office clarified that no such report has ever been published, verified, or approved by its editorial team. The management has described the viral article as a “criminal act of impersonation, forgery, and defamation,” aimed at misleading readers and damaging professional reputations.

> “The so-called article is a complete fabrication — from byline to layout. It is a mischievous attempt by unknown elements to malign both the credibility of Headlines Today and the reputation of a government officer,” the statement said.

The organization further confirmed that no journalist named Sandeep Raina has ever been affiliated with Headlines Today or its sister publication, Business Kashmir. The fake story’s claims — including alleged transfer violations, corruption linked to a 33kV line diversion at Lassipora, and unverified financial figures — were described as entirely baseless, concocted, and malicious.

The Legal Cell of the newspaper has been instructed to file a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), covering offenses such as identity theft, forgery, criminal impersonation, and defamation.

> “We sternly warn these unknown miscreants to prepare for strict legal repercussions. Headlines Today will pursue every available remedy to ensure that those behind this digital forgery face justice,” the Editor-in-Chief asserted.

Reaffirming its long-standing commitment to ethical, responsible, and verified journalism, Headlines Today urged readers, public officials, and media peers to cross-check all content attributed to the newspaper through its official channels only.

The publication has also appealed to law enforcement agencies to trace and prosecute the individuals or groups responsible for this deliberate attempt to undermine public trust and spread misinformation.

> “We will not allow anyone to misuse the name or integrity of Headlines Today for personal or political gain,” the statement concluded.

Once such great intellectual personality is Dr Rafeeq Ahmad Masoodi, popularly
known as Dr Rafeeq Masoodi— philanthropic, compassionate, down-to-earth and an exemplary
persona known for his humility, courtesy, sense of humor, critical appraisal and gripping speeches.
The eminent personality of Dr Rafeeq Masoodi is undoubtedly dynamic. Contracting such
scintillating persona, succinctly in some tightly woven paragraphs, wouldn’t do justice with life story of
such a towering character. Yet, I muster up courage to write it down here, briefly. Because his indelible
contribution in the filed of broadcasting, telecasting, literary circles, translation and administration, etc.
is something legendary.
Born to teacher parents in the picturesque Dangiwacha town in district Baramulla of north Kashmir
in an educated Peerzada family; the industrious son of the soil, Dr Rafeeq Masoodi got his early
education at his hometown before he went to the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at
Delhi where he obtained a Master’s, M Phil and PhD degree in Hindi. Having inherited a rich legacy of
literary passion and scholarship from his beloved mother Lt. Hafeeza Begum whom he called Ta’eth
and father, Lt. Ghulam Ahmad Masoodi—a renowned educationist and scholar of his time, who before
shifting to Dangiwacha resided at Hatishah, Sopore.
Having graduated in Arts stream (chosen for him by Prof. Ghulam Rasool Bacha) from GDC,
Sopore in 1976; Dr Rafeeq Masoodi with his unstinted dedication and indefatigable fortitude towards
his future prospects; laid a strong foundation of his journey for academic excellence and dedication.
He embarked on his incredible professional journey from All India Radio (AIR) which he joined at
Ahmedabad city in Gujarat in 1985 after being selected by UPSC then Radio Kashmir, Srinagar (now
Akashwani) as Program Executive of Yuvawani Service in Dec., 1986. From here, his undeterred spirit
and fascination didn’t stop till his today’s humanitarian and enthusiastic version of a living legend,
known to us as Masoodi Saeb—a true paragon of inspiration.
More known to people as a famous broadcaster, the multi-talented Dr. Masoodi’s is an
embodiment of famed broadcasting, telecasting, superb administration, literature and intellectuality,
etc. He is the only personality in J&K to have headed all cultural institutions viz. Vividh Bharati, Radio
Kashmir, Doordarshan and Cultural Academy and headed many radio and TV stations in India. Having
remained as the Additional Director General Doordarshan, Directorate General to Development
Communication Division, New Delhi, he also rediscovered the cultural ethos of J&K & Ladakh by
working as Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) vis-à-vis holding other
high-raking posts with brief time spent with RTM (Radio TV Malaysia) & CCTV (Central China TV),
before he moved to Delhi to serve Doordarshan.
For his notable achievements in radio and TV, Dr. Masoodi has been honored with many awards.
Though I can’t site them all, yet, it will be totally injustice if awards like Sahitya Academi Award (2005)
for Kashmir translation of TAMAS, SAMPA Award for promotion of Art (2007), Lifetime Achievement
Award from New Delhi in 2008 and Pride of India Award in 2009, etc. are not made a mention of.
But Dr Rafeeq Masoodi journey into broadcasting and literary horizons of Kashmir doesn’t end
here. He became known to the literary world through his translations, especially his Kashmiri
translation of Bhisham Sahni’s (actor Balraj Sahni’s brother) Tamas, Kashmiri translation of Vishnu
Prabhakar’s novel Ardh Narishwar and his own 2012 released book Panun Dod Panin Dag, a
collection of Kashmir poems, translated into English as My Pain, My Affliction by Prof. Muhammad
Aslam, Former Head, Dept. of English, Central University of Kashmir.
His heart crafted poetry under Panun Dod Panin Dag which got translated into various languages

since 2013, has not only made him a well-known figure in the literary and cultural circles across the
Valley, and outside but has also credited him with the ‘Pride of Jammu & Kashmir’ title. And far beyond
the realms of splendid broadcasting, translation, poetry and administration, Dr Masoodi’s passion
didn’t keep him confined to his literary endeavors—a testament to his enduring spirit of excellence, but
much more.
Dr Rafeeq Masoodi’s tenure as the Secretary of JKAACL, Srinagar was simply a golden era. His
instrumental role in resuscitating the Cultural Academy to its unique glory stands all time
commendable which is evident from Auyob Sabir’s verse on him, “Mae Basaan Prezalwun Iqbal (RA)
Wareya, Aya’n Roshan Emes Khadukhal Wareya. Masoodi Saeb Gou Tashreef Aawar, Academy
Sapez Khushal Wareya” (Dr. Iqbal to me is a sparkling personality whose every aspect is evident;
During Masoodi Sahib’s time, the Academy for progress took the front). On 8 May, 2002, Valley’s only
Jnanpith Awardee Lt. Prof. Rehman Rahi has said, “Achen Hund Gaash Mulnawan Masoodi, Dilech
Rech Aash Rechrawan Masoodi. Seatha Shuodbuod Ta Gatul Akh Rafeeq Insaan, Rutay Kerawav
Rutay Perawun Masoodi”.
The best thing about public-spirited Dr Rafeeq Masoodi is that his contributions to philanthropic
causes have earned him respect. Even after superannuation from his services, people approach to
him for favors and welfare. About him, a great poet and renowned broadcaster, Lt. Farooq Nazki has
once said, “Masoodi Wakie Ek Aunjuman Hai, Humaray Ahud Ka Woh Buet Shekan Hai. Chamkta Ek
Sitara Bangaya Hai, Masoodi Ek Edara Bangaya Hai”. Post his retirement as Additional Director
General Doordarshan, he serves Adbi Markaz Kamraz (Rafibad Centre for Culture) as Sarparast
(Patron), is founding member of Cancer Society of Kashmir and is heading Meeras Mahal Museum of
Sopore.
On the canvas of my own memories, I vividly recall my only meeting with sterling Dr Rafeeq
Masoodi at Cultural Academy’s Lal Mundi Office, Srinagar in 2007 when my 1st book Verses of Heart
had got published. Accompanied by my father, it was magnificent to see him reciting noble Qur’an
alone in his chamber before stirring an inclusive interaction with us. Indeed is Dr Sahib’s vibrant &
iconic personality, most praiseworthy—a unique blend of affection, dynamism and a living legacy par
excellence. Wish him a long life!

The recent speculations and hopes surrounding the potential release of Engineer Rashid from Tihar Jail, contingent upon winning the Lok Sabha seat in Baramulla constituency, have sparked significant debate among the local populace and political analysts alike.
Engineer Abdul Rashid, commonly known as Er Rashid, is a prominent political figure and former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Langate in Jammu and Kashmir. His arrest and subsequent incarceration in Tihar Jail have been a matter of considerable controversy. As the general elections approach, a wave of optimism has swept through Baramulla, with many constituents believing that a win for Rashid could facilitate his release, allowing him to serve as their representative in the Parliament of India.
Legal and Constitutional Framework
The Indian legal system operates on a clear separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches. The judiciary, being an independent body, adjudicates cases based on evidence and legal provisions, rather than political outcomes. As such, the release of a prisoner, including Er Rashid, is determined by judicial procedures rather than electoral victories.
If Rashid were to win the Lok Sabha seat from Baramulla, it would not automatically grant him freedom. His release would depend on the legal proceedings and decisions made by the courts, which consider factors such as the nature of charges, evidence, and legal arguments presented by both the defense and prosecution. Political influence, while significant in shaping public discourse, cannot directly alter judicial verdicts.
Public Sentiment and Political Strategy
The confidence among Baramulla’s residents regarding Rashid’s release underscores a broader narrative of political empowerment and representation. For many, Rashid symbolizes a voice that resonates with their aspirations and grievances. His previous tenure as an MLA was marked by vocal advocacy for regional issues, which has cemented his popularity.
Winning the Lok Sabha seat could indeed amplify Rashid’s platform, providing him with greater visibility and a more robust mandate to address the concerns of his constituents. It would also place political pressure on the ruling authorities to reconsider his detention, potentially leading to expedited legal proceedings or bail considerations. However, this is a nuanced process and far from guaranteed.
Historical Precedents and Implications
There have been instances in Indian politics where elected representatives were incarcerated but continued to wield significant political influence. For example, leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jayalalithaa managed to maintain their political relevance despite legal challenges. These cases illustrate that while electoral success can bolster a leader’s legitimacy and political leverage, it does not directly translate into judicial relief.
For Er Rashid, a victory in Baramulla would likely lead to increased advocacy efforts for his release, involving legal teams, human rights organizations, and political allies. It might also sway public opinion and create a compelling narrative for his case to be revisited. Nonetheless, the judiciary’s independence means that the outcome remains uncertain and contingent on legal merits rather than electoral outcomes.
The belief that winning the Lok Sabha seat in Baramulla could secure Er Rashid’s release from Tihar Jail reflects a profound desire for representation and justice among his supporters. While electoral success can enhance his political standing and potentially influence the broader discourse, it is ultimately the judiciary that holds the key to his fate. The interplay between legal procedures and political dynamics will determine whether Rashid can transition from a symbol of hope within the prison walls to an active representative in the halls of Parliament.

Just because we have experienced floods in the past. Flood risk is not just based on history,it is based on a number of factors including rainfall, topography, flood-control measures, river-flow and changes due to new construction and development. It is true that no human power can stop this natural calamity from happening, however there are certain set precautions that needs to be followed.
Let us consider the following flood-control measures before, during and after a flood.
Every now and then we have been informed how to combat with the natural calamities like floods etc.We need to focus on certain factors before planning any construction.Lets build it at a specific distance from any flowing water body or according to its intensity.Always prefer to build a strong and raised plenth. If possible construct your house at raised ground.Very surely install "check valves" in sewer traps to prevent flood water back ups during floods from the underground sewers.Construct interior barriers to stop low level floodwater from entering basements.Seal walls in basements with waterproofing compounds to avoid seepage.
During a slow and slient flood , move immediately to higher ground or higher storey with all the eatables and fresh water you have preserved, such floods last for many days .Also take care of your precious belongings like essential documents. If it is flash flood with raising intensity, leave this place immediately and move to safer place. Flash floods can occur in those areas with or without typical warnings such as consistent rains, cloud brusts or heavy rain fall. While leaving the spot, you should secure your home. If you have time, bring in outdoor furniture. Move essential items to an upper floor.Turn off utilities at the main switches or valves.Disconnect electrical appliances. Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.Always cooperate with others, especially government officals.
A flood can cause physical hazards and emotional stress. After flood you need to look after yourself and your family as you focus on cleanup and repair.Avoid using floodwaters.water may be contaminated by raw sewage. You must prioritise repairing or pluging of damaged septic tanks, cesspools, pits and leaching systems as soon as possible. Damaged sewer systems are causes of serious health hazards.Listen for news reports to learn whether the community's water supply is safe to drink.Clean and disinfect everything that got wet. Mud left from floodwaters can contain sewage and chemicals.Wash it throughly. Spray disinfectants like phenyl and ethenol. If it is not available use vinegar or bleaching powder.Be safe and help others if you can.You must build dikes of courage to hold back the fear of flood..
Author can be reached at javaidsultan6@gmail.com..

Kashmir, a region celebrated for its enchanting winter landscapes, is currently facing an unprecedented challenge – the tangible effects of global warming on its climate. This year, the region has witnessed a disturbing trend of rising temperatures during winter, jeopardizing the traditional spectacle of heavy snowfall. This shift not only threatens the region's critical water resources, historically sustained by winter snow, but also casts a shadow over the vibrant winter tourism industry, with a particular blow to renowned destinations like Gulmarg, famous for its winter games.

Escalating Winter Temperatures

Thallmark of Kashmir's winter has been the serene blanket of snow covering its landscapes. However, this year has brought about a disconcerting change as temperatures continue to rise during the winter months. Such a deviation from the norm poses immediate challenges to the delicate ecological balance of the region.

Snowfall and Water Resources

Winter snowfall has been a lifeline for Kashmir's water resources, serving as a natural reservoir that gradually replenishes rivers and lakes. The scarcity of snowfall this year raises concerns about water availability in the upcoming months, impacting agriculture, local communities, and the delicate ecosystems that depend on this seasonal influx.

Winter Tourism's Precarious Future

Kashmir's winter tourism has been a key economic driver, drawing visitors from around the globe. The allure of pristine, snow-covered landscapes has been a significant factor in this appeal. However, with the diminishing snowfall, iconic destinations like Gulmarg are facing a crisis. The dependability of snow-covered terrains for winter sports and games is eroding, presenting a significant threat to the livelihoods of those dependent on the tourism industry.

Gulmarg: A Struggling Hub for Winter Games

Gulmarg, celebrated for its ski resorts and winter festivities, finds itself at the forefront of the climate change impact. The reduction in snowfall not only compromises the visual splendor of the region but also endangers the viability of winter sports. Local businesses and individuals reliant on winter tourism are grappling with uncertainty and economic challenges.

The current scenario in Kashmir, marked by rising winter temperatures and a decline in snowfall, serves as a stark reminder of the profound impact of global warming. The interconnected issues of compromised water resources and the jeopardy faced by winter tourism, especially in places like Gulmarg, underscore the urgency of addressing climate change. It is imperative that local and global communities come together to adopt sustainable practices and mitigate the adverse effects of global warming, ensuring the preservation of the unique charm that has defined Kashmir's winters for generations.

The recent incidents have once again brought to the fore the negligence of the authorities and the lack of attention towards the safety of the people.

The shooting stones and landslides on the Jammu-Srinagar highway have been a perennial problem, particularly during the monsoon season when theu region receives heavy rainfall. However, despite knowing the risks involved, the authorities have failed to take necessary measures to mitigate the hazards. This lack of preparedness and planning has resulted in several fatal incidents, causing immense loss of life and property.

The recent incident on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, in which several people lost their lives due to shooting stones and landslides, is a grim reminder of the negligence of the authorities. The incident has not only caused a massive disruption in traffic movement but has also exposed the inadequacy of the rescue and relief efforts. The slow response of the authorities in providing immediate medical assistance and rescue operations has added to the misery of the affected people.

In a recent tragic incident, just yesterday, two persons were killed as a large-sized shooting stone hit a truck they were travelling in, near Digdole
along Jammu-Srinagar highway.

It is high time that the government takes cognizance of the gravity of the situation and takes necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. The safety of the people should be the topmost priority of the authorities. The government should conduct a comprehensive study of the terrain and geology of the region and identify the vulnerable areas that are prone to landslides and shooting stones. It should also take necessary measures to stabilize the slopes and ensure proper drainage systems to prevent soil erosion.

The authorities should also invest in the latest technologies and equipment to monitor the movement of rocks and boulders on the highway. The installation of advanced warning systems, sirens and real-time monitoring devices would help alert the authorities and the public about the potential risks and enable them to take necessary precautions.

Moreover, the government should also focus on the rehabilitation of the affected people and provide them with necessary support and assistance. The families of the deceased should be compensated adequately, and the injured should receive proper medical treatment and rehabilitation facilities in quick time.

The spate of knife attacks has sent shockwaves across the once peaceful society, leaving people fearful and insecure. The sudden rise in such incidents has not only exposed the vulnerability of the people but has also cast a shadow on the region's cultural ethos.

The culture of Kashmir has always been known for its hospitality, warmth, and inclusivity. However, the recent stabbing cases have brought to light the increasing intolerance, frustration, and aggression within the society. The incidents of knife attacks are not only a matter of concern for the victims and their families but also for the society at large. It is alarming to see how easily the youth are being lured into such acts of violence, leading to a sense of chaos and anarchy in the region.

In a recent incident, a youth was grievously injured after he was stabbed by another youth during an altercation in the Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district on intervening Monday and Tuesday night.

One of the primary reasons for the increase in knife attacks is the prevailing sense of despair and hopelessness among the youth. The political turmoil in the region, coupled with economic instability, has led to a lack of opportunities and avenues for the young people. This has resulted in a growing frustration and sense of alienation, making them susceptible to extremist ideologies and violence.

Another contributing factor is the easy availability of weapons. The authorities have failed to curb the influx of weapons into the region, making it easier for the youth to acquire them. The lack of effective law enforcement has further aggravated the situation, with criminals and anti-social elements taking advantage of the chaos and instability.

The impact of these stabbing incidents on the once cultured society of Kashmir cannot be overstated. The sense of fear and insecurity has affected the social fabric of the region, leading to a breakdown of trust and communal harmony. The culture of hospitality and inclusivity that once defined the valley is now under threat, as people are hesitant to extend their homes and hearts to strangers.

The loss of tourism revenue has further exacerbated the economic challenges faced by the people of Kashmir.

In conclusion, the recent surge in stabbing cases in Kashmir is a cause for concern for the entire society. The impact of these incidents on the once cultured society of Kashmir has been profound, highlighting the need for a concerted effort to address the underlying issues. The authorities need to take urgent steps to curb the availability of weapons and improve law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the people. At the same time, efforts must be made to address the economic and social challenges faced by the youth, providing them with opportunities and avenues for growth and development. The cultural ethos of Kashmir, which has withstood the test of time, must be preserved and strengthened, ensuring that the valley remains a beacon of hospitality, warmth, and inclusivity for generations to come.

The Hazratbal shrine is one of the most revered places of worship for Muslims in the region and the news of the fire breaking out there has left many saddened and worried. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a fire incident has occurred in the region, and it is high time that the authorities take steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

The Hazratbal fire incident comes just days after a massive fire broke out in a hotel in Srinagar, causing extensive damage. Earlier this year, another fire incident occurred in the same area, where a residential building was gutted, and several families were left homeless. The frequency of such incidents is alarming, and it is essential that the authorities investigate the causes behind them.
At least seven residential houses including a 'U-shaped' shopping complex was damaged in a massive fire incident at Dargah Hazratbal in central Kashmir's Hazratbal area today.
One of the main reasons behind the increase in fire mishaps in the region is the lack of fire safety measures. Many buildings in the region do not have fire safety equipment such as smoke detectors, fire alarms, and fire extinguishers. Even if they do have these, they are often outdated or not maintained properly. It is essential that the authorities make it mandatory for all buildings to have proper fire safety equipment and ensure that they are regularly checked and maintained.
Another major reason for the increase in fire incidents is the lack of awareness about fire safety among the general public. People often do not know what to do in case of a fire, and this can lead to panic and chaos, which can make the situation worse. It is essential that the authorities conduct awareness campaigns to educate people about fire safety, including what to do in case of a fire and how to prevent fires from breaking out in the first place.
In addition to these, the authorities also need to take steps to prevent the illegal constructions in the region. Many buildings in the region have been constructed illegally, and they do not follow any building regulations or safety norms. Such constructions are a significant fire hazard and need to be demolished immediately.
Finally, the authorities also need to investigate the possibility of foul play in such incidents. In the past, there have been cases where fires were deliberately started for various reasons, including to cover up other crimes. It is essential that the authorities thoroughly investigate each incident to rule out any possibility of foul play.
In conclusion, the recent increase in fire mishaps in Kashmir, including the Hazratbal fire incident today, is a cause for concern. It is essential that the authorities take steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. This includes making it mandatory for all buildings to have proper fire safety equipment, conducting awareness campaigns to educate people about fire safety, preventing illegal constructions, and thoroughly investigating each incident to rule out any possibility of foul play. Only then can we hope to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.

One of the key practices during this time is the observance of 'Aitikaf'. Aitikaf is a spiritual retreat that involves secluding oneself in a mosque or a designated space for a specific period of time, typically the last 10 days of Ramadan. During this period, Muslims focus on deepening their connection with Allah through prayer, reading the Quran, and reflecting on their faith and spirituality.

Aitikaf is an opportunity to disconnect from the distractions of daily life and to focus on spiritual purification. By dedicating themselves to prayer and reflection, Muslims hope to draw closer to Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins. This is particularly significant during Ramadan, which is known as the month of forgiveness.

In Islam, forgiveness is a key theme throughout the Quran. Muslims believe that Allah is merciful and forgiving, and that seeking forgiveness is an essential part of the faith. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, and it is believed that this act of self-discipline and devotion can help to purify the soul and seek forgiveness.

The last 10 days of Ramadan are a time of heightened spirituality and reflection, and it's important to make the most of this time. Muslims are encouraged to increase their acts of worship, including prayer, reading the Quran, and giving to charity. It's also a time to focus on personal reflection and self-improvement, and to seek forgiveness for past mistakes.

As we approach the end of Ramadan, it's important to remember that the month is not just about abstaining from food and drink during the day. Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal and reflection, and the last 10 days are a particularly powerful opportunity to connect with Allah and seek forgiveness.

In a world that can often feel chaotic and overwhelming, Ramadan provides a sense of calm and clarity. It's a time to prioritize our spiritual well-being and to focus on the things that truly matter in life. As we enter the last 10 days of Ramadan, let us all take a moment to reflect on our faith and our relationship with Allah. Let us seek forgiveness for our sins and commit ourselves to a path of spiritual growth and personal development.

In conclusion, the last 10 days of Ramadan are a precious time for Muslims around the world. It's a time to focus on spiritual purification and to seek forgiveness for past mistakes. By dedicating ourselves to acts of worship and reflection, we can deepen our connection with Allah and draw closer to our faith. As we approach the end of Ramadan, let us all strive to make the most of this special time and to emerge as better, more spiritually connected individuals.
