Kupwara 26 October:- In a thrilling finale of the Legends Cup Poshnar Edition II, Qasim Sports Dahama emerged victorious after defeating Ashkanpora Stars by 62 runs at the historic Poshnar Warpora ground.

Batting first, Qasim Sports set a mammoth total of 207 runs, thanks to a spectacular show of power hitting. Firdous Wani, the star performer from District Kupwara, led from the front with a blistering 62 off just 30 balls, while Mohd Amir smashed 47 runs off 13 deliveries and Ahmad Irfan added a quickfire 28 off 13 balls, propelling the team to an imposing total.

In response, Ashkanpora Stars failed to keep up with the asking rate and fell short by 62 runs. Shahid Rashid was the lone fighter for his side, scoring a valiant 49 runs.

During the presentation ceremony, guests were honoured with certificates. Mr. Gh Mohidin Lone, the Chief Guest, and Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Guest of Honour, handed over the winner’s and runner-up trophies to the respective teams.

Firdous Wani shone bright throughout the tournament, clinching Man of the Match, Best Bowler, and Most Valuable Player awards. Shahid Rashid received the titles of Best Batter and Best Wicketkeeper of the tournament.

With this emphatic victory, Qasim Sports Dahama proudly lifted the Legends Cup Poshnar Edition II trophy, marking a memorable day for cricket enthusiasts across Kupwara.

BANDIPORA 12 Sep : The sports scene in North Kashmir is set to ignite as the highly anticipated Bandipora Super League is scheduled to commence on September 28 at the iconic Sher-e-Kashmir Bandipora Stadium. Srinagar, Apr 17: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan Thursday highlighted the immense passion for cricket among Kashmir’s youth, while pointing out the lack of infrastructure and consistent opportunities that continue to hold them back from reaching their potential.

Speaking at the launch of the EPIC Victory Cricket League (EVCL) in Srinagar, Pathan said he has personally seen promising young cricketers in Kashmir, including a left-arm pacer from Kupwara and several talented players from Baramulla. “These boys have the spark, but they need exposure and proper training to shine,” he said during a press conference at Hotel Radisson.

Introducing the EVCL, Pathan said the league is designed to uncover and promote raw talent from regions like Jammu and Kashmir, as well as from states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. “This is more than just a cricket tournament; it’s a platform to change lives,” he remarked.

The league will feature both young talents and experienced domestic players, offering an environment where learning and mentorship go hand in hand, Pathan added.

Pathan also drew attention to the outdated facilities still in use across several districts in Kashmir. “Many areas are still using matting wickets. If we want to produce players who can compete at the national level, turf wickets and modern training infrastructure are essential,” he said.

Impressed by the emergence of female cricketers from the Valley, Pathan said their rise reflects a growing passion for the game that transcends gender. “It’s inspiring to see girls also stepping forward with the same dedication,” he added.

Having previously worked with young cricketers during his tenure with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Pathan said he has personally witnessed the deep love for cricket in even the remotest corners of the Valley. “The hunger is there now it's about giving them the right opportunities,” he concluded. SRINAGAR: Abid Mushtaq has become the second player from the lot from Jammu and Kashmir to get acquired by a franchisee for the coveted Indian Premier League. 

Abid, an all-rounder hailing from Doda has exhibited top performances at the national level. After many hits and misses, the all-rounder has finally found a place in Rajasthan Royals at his base price of 0.20 Cr. (20 Lacs).

Baramulla :-  The Baramulla Tennikoit Association Thursday  concluded the District Tennikoit Championship 2023 at Govt.High School Watergam,Wagoora Baramulla, which started from 11th October 2023 to 12th October.

The Event Witnessed an impressive turnout of approximately 70 participants, including both boys and girls from all age categories representing Different schools and Clubs of district Baramulla. SRINAGAR: The much-awaited Asia Cup faceoff between India and Pakistan Asia Cup was called off due to intermittent rains at Pallekele Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.

Both teams shared a point each, but Pakistan stormed into the Super-Four Stage of the tournament without sweating too much with the bat, and their pacers had a good outing against top Indian batsmen.

Pakistan are topping Group A with 3 points, and India are standing second with a point. Nepal is yet to open an account.

Fans were disappointed with such a finish, but were happy to go back home with the memories of Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan's classic fifties, and the fiery bowling of Pakistani pacers. Leading the pack were Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, who together bagged all 10 wickets.

With overcast conditions hovering over the stadium, both captains were keen on batting first, but Rohit Sharma called the toss right and opted to bat.

India were on the backfoot immediately, tottering at 66/4 but India fought back with a fantastic 138-run partnership between Kishan and Hardik. Kishan slammed 82 off 81 balls and Hardik cracked 87 off 90 balls with 7 boundaries and a six. In this period, Pakistan allowed India to recover with their spinners looking flat and the fielding sloppy.

The wicket-keeper batsman paced his innings nicely by mixing aggression and caution, while Hardik was on a roll with his flat-batted hits square of the wicket.

Kishan got to his fifty in 54 balls after ambling across for a single off Shadab Khan in the 29th over, collecting 6 boundaries and a six along the way.

This was an excellent reply by him when Pakistani pacers had dismissed top four Indian batsmen including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in 15 overs. This was also Kishan's fourth ODI fifty on the trot and his seventh overall in the format.

Hardik completed his fifty in 62 balls with three boundaries as his partnership with Kishan crossed the century mark, taking India to 187/4 in 36 overs. This was his 11th ODI fifty.

Haris Rauf eventually broke the century stand by sending back Kishan who cracked 9 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Hardik, however, did not stop and stepped up gas after Kishan's dismissal. Just when the Gujarat lad looked to build yet another partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, Shaheen Afridi removed them in the same over.

India were reduced to 266 all out from 239/5.

Shaheen scalped 4 wickets, while Rauf and Naseem Shah picked 3 wickets each to curb India getting to 300 runs mark as it looked possible when Hardik and Kishan were going great guns.

After winning the toss, India were soon in a spot of bother as they lost four wickets in the span two rain breaks in the first innings.

India lost Shubman Gill for 10 off 32 balls, cleaned up by Rauf who had an impressive-looking Shreyas Iyer, who was making a comeback into the playing XI after an injury.

After the first rain break, Shaheen sent back Rohit and Virat Kohli in consecutive overs. And Haris Rauf had an impressive-looking Shreyas Iyer, who was making a comeback into the playing XI after an injury.

Shreyas was out caught by Fakhar Zaman who had dropped Rohit in the very first over of the match for 14 off 9 balls, leaving India in a deep hole at 48/3 in 9.5 overs.

Rohit lost his wicket after he was cleaned up by Shaheen for 11, and Kohli fell to the same bowler, chopping on to his stumps for 4.

Pakistan are coming into the match after beating minnows Nepal comprehensively in the tournament opener, and for India this is the opener. If Pakistan wins today's match, they will qualify for the round-robin contest.

Pakistan fielded an unchanged team, while India drafted in Shardul Thakur ahead of Mohammed Shami and included Shreyas, who came into the side after recovering from an injury. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: First time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, five footballers from the Union Territory have been selected for Under-16 National camp to participate in the zonal selection trial for an upcoming SAFF Cup football tournament to be played at Bhutan.

Former Indian footballer and member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Technical Committee, Arun Malhotra on Tuesday said that the trials are scheduled to be held from June 7 to 13 in Punjab. “The AIFF has selected two boys from each state,” Malhotar stated.

Malhotra, who himself supervised the trials, said that Jammu and Kashmir managed to secure five spots for talented players. The selected players from Jammu and Kashmir are Arnav Sharma, Krish Kerni, Abdul Salha Shear Gojri, Aayaan Bilal and Hashim Bilal.
He also lauded the role of Secretary J&K Sports Council for being supportive and playing a key role to bring football to new heights of glory.

Notably, the expenses related to the travel of the selected candidates will be borne by the J&K Sports Council through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

Ex-International footballer, Ishfaq Ahmad, International Coach, Sajid Yousuf Dar, Educator, Javaid Ahmad, Arun Pal Jasrotia Certified scout and Satpal Singh, Coach were also the important role players in the selection trials.

“Our players are striving to bring glory to Jammu and Kashmir on the football field and several measures are in the pipeline for uplifting the game in Jammu and Kashmir,” said an official. (UNI)
